The "Pegaso" 650 project

I have bought a badly abused Aprilia Pegaso from a parent who should have been jailed for "bike abuse"!!!

Heard about the poor bike last Thursday and went to visit it on Friday. She looked at me with tear filled eyes and said "take me from this horrible man" who has rung my neck, broken my back, fed me low grade fuel, abused me when all I could do was 160kph, then left me to rust!!!.

Now being a soft & kind hearted BMW rider and knowing that the Aprilia is a distant cousin of my fine bike I did not have the heart to leave her behind in it's cold, dirty garage. After all I have a 17 year old Son who might be rightly pleased with this not so old steed crying out for lot's of TLC.

So the refurb began last weekend : The abuse was immediately very clear, the fuel was filthy as were the carbs which had been pried off previously useing a screw driver, damaging the inlet manifolds in the process and being re-attached using cable ties. The shock was "kaput" and on removal was found to be from a Kawasaki and had bit's missing. The seat is being lovingly restored. All but 2 of the nuts and bolts that keep the bike together were missing, the exhaust rusted through.

Paint work is surprisingly good for a '98 model and she only has a few scratches to show from all the abuse. All the bell's and whistles still work and the battery is fine. 32000kms on the clock.

So if anybody knows of a willing donor who will happily part with a set of Aprilia Pegaso exhausts they will be graciously received, she might even pop a wheelie for you as token of gratitude.

So where to!!!!!!

Bike has been serviced, new shock will be in soon, seat is being covered, if no exhausts are found then "powerflow" will be called to action, battery charged, oil changed, fuel replaced, carbs cleaned and serviced, all fluids topped up, hooter hoots and the motor runs & sounds so sweet!!!!.

All this and the account is sitting on R14k all in.....

Now to clear a space in my garage for the new "baby", anybody out there got some "purity" for me to feed her with....................

Geoff.

Hey Geoff This sounds so sweet :-) Sounds a little bit like Brenda Buttercup's story. Now I am looking for something similar for my 19-year old son - he wants to forsake his Kawa ZZR 400 and join the BMW/Aprilia fraternity. If I find a nice, cheap, old BMW to restore to working condition at a good price I will either give it to him or take it for myself and let him be seduced by Brenda's wiles... How about some pictures? Website Administrator

Charles what do you want to pay???? I see the Atlantic Motorrad have a 2000GS 650, Yellow, 8000kms, that you could wrestle down to the early R30K-'s. It is on consignment. Looks in 100% condition.

Just as well that Yellow has been adopted. My (wet) dream is to find a working 1100 GS that needs TLC and is going for around R25k. My other ordinary dream is that it is another '98 or 2000 F650GS for under R20k. :sigh: one can dream I suppose :( Website Administrator
