I need to park a 2008 1200GS for 6 months - any tips on what I should do to avoid trouble when I start using the bike in six months time? Is it better to completely disconnect the battery or should I leave it on a smart charger?

It might also be useful to have someone start the bike and run it a bit, say every two months, just to keep all the lubes flowing etc.

The smart charger, apart from reconditioning the battery, keeps it warm when it is cold.

I use a BMW charger that I managed to get on eBay at a stupid price of R200.00 ....... this I leave plugged into the bike's socket when I leave it for a long period whilst overseas.... don't know what they cost here - but well worth it to keep the battery in tiptop condition!

David,

botoom line.

no problem.

You may return to a drained battery.

And a short charge cycle will remedy that.
