Hi Guys & Gals, My GF is still looking for a bike & we have played out a number of scenarios around the whole thing. The 650's by & large seem to be to heavy for a lot of woman and they end up being intimidated by the bike & avoid even slightly technical terrain. It spoils the experience from the beginning & reluctance to ride can set in. I don't want to come over chauvinistic here....not the intention. Reality dictates a motor with ooomph but a way lighter bike. Herein lies the rub. The BMW Club has a well founded & supported ladies division that works. You guys ride often, support each other and share an affinity that is hard to beat. The WD ladies are by & large in JHB & do their thing admirably but its not CT! So the Question is if my girlfriend actually finds a bike can she come ride with you & participate on all levels in your club? I might have to tag along of course...promise no "wild antics" ! lol You guys would provide a positive platform & it would really help me. Tnx Pete

Hey Pete I might be talking out-of-turn here, but I don't think we have a problem with like-minded riders joining us on our rides or coming to our functions. We already have Jane as a fully-fledged club member on a baby-blade. You might have to put up with some light-hearted brand-bigotry :) My wife Julie attended the last (sort of club/bmw) track day on a 180cc Bajaj! I am in a similar position to you regarding getting a reasonable bike for Julie (who is also vertically-challenged). Not to mention that I am cash-challenged too ;-) Website Administrator [http://honeybadger.net Honey Badger IT Services]

If I can stick my chicken-neck out with Charles, I doubt there'd be a problem with your girlfriend joining us at all, it's about riding and having fun albeit on a different brand. Jane's on a likkle blade and Allan now has a twiumf twiple...both full members.

I'll send you my bank details and an invoice :) Also please supply 3 months of bank statements, proof of residence and a DNA sample. Thank you.
There are so many problems in this world. Luckily there's a wristband available for almost all of them.

Hi there Pete, Regarding your query. Obviously being the BMW Club we would prefer that your good lady rode a BMW and would encourage you and her not to be put off by the possible "intimidation" factors you have mentioned. (Speak to my Wife and many of the other Ladies that ride with the Club!!) She would be welcome to join us as a "guest" on the rides. First prize obviously remains that she rides a BMW. Geoff

Perhaps the GF should come to the next ladies day & first chat to the girls - what they like & dislike about their bikes and so on. You'll probably be quite surprised at how petite some of the girls riding 650's are & they seem to have very few problems on- or off-road, even with dual-purpose tyres ;-)

Well said Bella - Until recently I also found the 650 intimidating but it's surpisingly easy to handle and only heavy when you have to pick it up :)

That's a bit harsh, if she is not sure on the BMW because of size / weight etc, surely she will not now go and buy one because she can't join the club and only ride as a "guest". That's like, you can come with us but please do not park your bike next to ours?? Also, these bikes are expensive so to go and buy a BMW jus to join a club is crazy. Most of the times the the club rides are "all types welcome" so i do not see the difference here. It's all about riding together and have fun, why make it complicated ? That's just my opinion!

Vlokkie, don't panic. We allow 'guests' to ride with us with no obligations or time-limits. Naturally, we cannot, by our constitution, allow just any old non-BMW riders to join or form a major component of the club. Things are made a bit more cloudy by the fact that PP does not ride a BMW either. However, in the interests of improved rider safety, and of making our ladies events more viable, we will allow certain individuals to participate - as guests. We do not exclude the possibility that such a guest may well decide to buy a BMW in the future - if not because they have come to see what a nice bike it is, then because it allows unhindered access to the club :) Website Administrator [http://honeybadger.net Honey Badger IT Services]

Vlokkie I don't think it is at all harsh, after all the Club's founding was as a result of BMW Motorcycles, much like a chess club.....my dominoes aren't welcome, nor is my scooter on club rides!:-)( I think it may have something to do with having passed a club member or two whilst on it?):-) which is understandable. It would be crazy to buy a bike to join a club, buy the bike you love to ride, the club is secondary to that, no complication.:-)

Neil and Charles, Thanks for your comments, all i was saying is give the girl a chance, and im sure once her confidence has improved and she feel comfortable on a bigger bike then yes hopefully she will buy a BMW and enjoy it. Until then safe riding to all, no matter what your heart desire! :):)
