LEVEL 1 TRAINING EVENT : BOOKINGS CLOSED

After some discussion at our first committee meeting, and subsequent meetings between John Car and me, we have decided to try a slightly different approach to skills training this year to see if we can enhance the training that we've been giving based on our experiences and feedback from club members.

As our training venue is no longer available we have hunted around and found an alternative at Anura, also in the Stellenbosch region.  Other farms are available, at a price, however I've given training before at Anura and all they ask is that we support their restaurant, which is ideal because they also have bathroom facilities (even less pressure ladies Wink ).

Our first Training "Event" will be on the 30 June AND the weekend of the 13, 14 July.  The idea is to follow training up with a ride that will make use of some of the skills we've been practising.

TARGET GROUP

Level 1 training for Pillions, Ladies and those wanting to practice the basics.

2 Groups of 10 bikes maximum - first come first served.

COST

The training day will be R300 per person which includes lunch (I'll post the menu shortly)

The "Away" ride for the weekend of the 13/14 July will be announced once we've confirmed group rates with the venue.

SCHEDULE

30 JUNE 0800 till mid afternoon

Road riding techniques.

Meet at Donford for coffee, briefing and basics "chalk and talk" including the basics for Road riding.

Road ride to the venue focusing on techniques explained during "chalk and talk"

Offroad riding techniques.

Split into 2 groups - Pillions and Ladies Group 1 and "The Rest" Group 2.

Lunch (included in the price) at the Anura restaurant.

Complete training after lunch then ...

13 and 14 JULY

Leave from Donford for a weekend venue, early Saturday morning.  Costs and other details to be announced shortly.

BOOKING

Bookings are on a first come first served basis.  Please indicate whether you are riding solo or with a pillion for the training day at Anura.

Bookings can either be made on this page or by contacting me, preferably via SMS or WhatsApp on 083 375 1299

I'll keep updating this page - Maximum 20 bikes - If your name doesn't appear on this page, I'm afraid you aren't booked.

Hi Peter - please book Stan and Félice - for pillion training - only for the training day, not the ride (we'll be in Namibia on the 13th/14th)

I'll contact you by phone as well, to confirm.

Please put Wendy and Justin down for pillion training.

Thanks

OK I just realised that it is Buffelspoort that weekend so I cant make the training.

A pity as I would like to have attanded and I am sure that others that are going to Bufflespoort would have also wanted to attend.

Sorry Justin, with the number of rides being organised we just can't cater for everything to be synchronised.  Many people miss the bookings too so at least there is training if they miss the rides.  There will be more though so you won't miss out.

Hi Pete and fellow soon-to-be-trainees, I've noticed that this training event is not listed on the website's home page on LHS (under upcoming events) & has also fallen off the end of the too short (RHS) list of current topics, so that it is not currently enjoying the airtime that will attract more participants.

I, for one, will be very disappointed if it get's cancelled due to lack of interest.

Hope to se you all there next Sunday - weather permitting :)

... and a big advance thank you to Peter for setting this up.

We’ve been waiting for a long time for some quality training for those of us who carry pillions off-road and on Sunday we got just that.

We had a great day, at the end of which, it was obvious that we had all gained from the knowledge and practise, with everyone navigating the tight obstacles with confidence and safety.

Thank-you Pete, Neels, John and Arno, for putting in the time and effort which allows us to safely acquire the skills that we need in order to enjoy riding our bikes.

I don’t think anyone embarrassed themselves Big Al.  It’s not easy to manoeuvre these big, heavy bikes at slow speed, especially with a pillion.  The odd little “side stand” incident is all part of the learning process and nothing to worry about.
