Hi everybody. Just thought I'd introduce myself. I've been riding a Vespa ET4 for almost 5 years - and have often dreamed of owning a Dakar. Well, this month i sold my Vespa and bought a Dakar from Auto Atlantic. Many thanks to Freakonaleash for all his help, patience and advice. As a newbie, and never haaving ridden anything as large as a 650 I'm still pretty nervous. But man, what a rush pulling out ofthe Waterfront yesterday. The bike is a dream. I'm a little concerend about the height, my feet are on tiptoes when holding the bike up. I can't wait to hit the dirt roads and see more of the western cape on weekend excursions.

Welcome to life, Cloudgazer. No I mean this; I firmly believe that the two wheel experience opens life to mankind. You'll now go places, see things, meet people, etc.. etc. that you never imagined... GREAT STUFF.

Cloudgazer, Welcome !! You will enjoy the BMW lifestyle - do not worry too much about the nerves, I strongly suggest you get on some trips lead by the club. There is a beginners off road trip this sunday, have a look at http://www.bmwmotorcycleclubcape.co.za/beginners-road-gs-rider-outing Also look at the suspension setting, maybe you can gain some need cm's by adjusting it if you are really tippy... Keep it SAFE !!

I beleive it. I sold my BMW 3 series to get my Vespa - and absolutely loved it. But the small size was limiting, in that it weas great for the city and not much else. Being on 2 wheels is so much more interactive than sitting in a box staring out of the screen that resembles a TV. On a bike, at leats you can feel the wind, smell the restaurants and rubbish, feel the heat on your face, etc. Now, I can't wait to get out and about

Cloudgazer - WELCOME This Friday it will be exactly two years since I bought my first BMW bike - 650GS. I only used it for commuting between Bellville and Cape Town, until I did my first breakfast run with the club. Niel, James and myself arrived at the advertised time (which had been moved forward, without updating the add :) ). Niel led us to Noordhoek, where we joined the main group. A few weeks later we rode to Sutherland with the group. 17 000 km in 13 months! :) We then moved on to an RT. Which ever route you take (on or off road) you will meet many new friends and have a stunning time with the club. Charles is now an avid off-roader - he only started a just more than year ago (with the off road exploits). May you have many safe and pleasant miles.

Welcome Cloudgazer, The finest thing you did was to sell the 3 series, Here you will meet the most wonderful people who are pasionate about the brand, club and members. May your mirrors never touch the ground. Bum in the saddle, always.

Think before you ink.

Trust is the most valuable asset.

I have the rest of my life to get old.

Thanks for the welcome. I'll be using the Dakar daily as my only means of transport (i may buy a car next winter), but the real reason I got it was to experience the joys of off-roading.

I also had a Vespa and was looking for a bigger scooter when a friend of my wiefie sold me Brenda Buttercup. At first I turned her down (can you believe it), because I associated BMW with cars and their typical drivers. Now my life is so rich I could burst :) Welcome and Enjoy! Charles

LOL Charles - BM drivers do have a bad rep... but i think it may be jealousy. The cars and bikes are great... the customers support/service is awesome... the compnay has a way of making thier customers feel special

LOL John The Dakar is like twice the weight of the ET4. I can't wait for the weekend to take it for a real ride... I live in green point and work in Sea Point, so haven't really had much time to ride since Monday,
