I got the capital authority this morning to procure my neck brace. (Million dollar question on who gave the authority!) OK, I need to make an informed decision and cannot think of a better approach than to ask the people who have been through this exercise before – what to buy and where to buy. Are there different types of braces? What is the best buy vis-a-vis the mid-range affordable option? And then the mother of all questions – where should I buy the brace? Are the BMW dealerships the best place to go? Any information that may be of help in making an informed decision will be appreciated – it is after all a relatively large investment! Abel The ride is the destination.

BMW Dealers will be expensive. Try guys like TracMac or Advid rider in North Gate Cape Town. Hamman had a special end of last year where one could buy 2 braces for 5K. I am not sure if this special is still running, in all probability not. There is a bottom of the range, ie. not adjustable and the padding cannot be removed for cleaning purposes for approx R2500. I opted for the mid spec unit(Moto Gpx Club) that allow for infinite adjustment and removable padding for Leatt-Brace and it should retail for approx. 3K. It will be one of the best biking investments you'll make.

I bought mine from Recycle in Bellville and also opted for the Club brace. I ride with mine everywhere and definately a worthwhile investment. Basically there are 3 options, all varying in price. The most expensive is the Moto GPX Sport, followed by the Club and lastly the Adventure.
