Would like to hear about your wettest ride. Please this is a family site - wet as in rain, please. Day one of the Hoggsback trip was probably the longest single distance that that I have spent in heavy rain - but then you are prepped for it. On Thursday afternoon there was a little drizzle when I left Cape Town. In fact it was so light I did not even bother to put on my rain pants. The traffic was free flowing and it was a pleasure to be on the bike. Right opposite Century City the heavens opened, last time I experienced something like this was in Jo-burg. Visibility down to zero. At the bend just before the N7 a car aqua-planed into the barriers!! The drops were stinging me, right through a set of leathers gloves. This weather only lasted for about 2 km - my trousers were soaked!!!

Great trip to Prince Albert. We (wife and i) left in heavy rain on Friday. Saturday heavy rain and zero degrees, Sunday on the way back heavy rain and freezing again except for (and I kid you not) 10 minutes of no rain and 1 minute of sunshine just before Towers rivier. And when asked if we would do the trip again giving the same conditions...... a resounding YES! We are mad. Donald Own a GS and never run out of road.

Mal mense. Groete JR

My Most Rainy trip- De Aar return. I ride - and the the weather of the day determines what I wear over/under my gear. So rain has been my companion this year- BIG TIME. The most rainy trip in recent memory was the wedding trip of May 2005. I had my R1150RT at that stage. What a bike!!! Anne in I in Mr Farmer lace-up top-boots and Mr Farmer rain suites left Gordon's Bay in rain to attend a wedding in De Aar. We had rain in all forms and by the time it hailed, I was oblivious to it. Annie had Woolworths shammy gloves on and I had GS summer gloves on. The rain dominates my memory of the trip and it was the odd patches of blissfully welcome sunshine that kept us going. The 7- hour trip via Vic West was probally 5 hours rain. We were in a rain squall, in the dark on the Britstown- De Aaar road at 130km/h when my cell phone rang. I slowed down quickly to take the call as I saw it was the concerned bridal group calling. My headset was also budget then so I could only hear below 90kph. As I reduced to 80, we suddenly saw quart beer bottles standing all over the road. At that speed I was able to weave between them and evade the accident. Waiting skollies on the road side were ready to steal what ever fell before them. or whatever car crashed there. Had I not received that phone call, you would not be reading this rain report. Nevertheless, we arrived home safely 2 days later with rain most of the way back as well and hey, Annie stayed riding with me as well. Since then, I don't mind any weather conditions or light conditions. I quoine a well worn phrase on this forum- "I ride therefor I am..." Andyman Yup that's me. Standing up in the traffic on the 1150GSA.
