Dropped my Dakar off for a service at Atlantic this a.m., picked up a loan bike, and on my way back to Hout Bay (08.10 am), a bakkie cut right accross my path whilst looking at me (I had right-of-way). It was a very close-call, luckily I was well under the speed limit, and driving eps, cautiously on a loan bike. So I chased him up Camps Bay Drive, stopped him, took down all his details, then went to see his boss in the Hout Bay Harbour. She was very apologetic, I requested (and was shown) his valid driving licence (they recalled him to base immediately), and now the HR manager is visitng me at home at 11 a.m., to provide feedback. So complaining to the right people has certainly worked: I mentioned that he was very worried about losing his job (the driver) and I did NOT want that to happen, but did explain that if I did not get follow-up from HR, I would report reckless driving to the police. It did not help that, when I walked to the front of his bakkie to take down his registration, there was NO front number plate :(I have requested that they replace the missing number plate withing 48 hours, or will contninue with my report at the police station). So, good follow-up on the company's side thus far.

Sorry to hear about the mishap, very proud of you for taking the steps to correct this incident properly. "Sorry - I didn't see you" doesn't heal broken bones. Well done under the circumstances!

Same thing happened to me on Sunday at Koeberg interchange. Chinese looking lady in Black BMW cut right in front of me to get into the lane for the N1. She missed me by a baby's bum hair! Maybe we should mount camera's on our bikes to record the idiots on the road. I wish I could get 500 bucks for everyone I see talking on their phones!

Not to hi-jack, but just a related Q. If you weave, and a car pushes you over with using indicators, who is in the wrong? Me for weaving dangerously or them for changing lanes and not checking properly? 'If I always do what I've always done, I'll always get what I've always got.'

GJ dare I say it is not a matter of right or wrong - when you go down it HURTS. I concentrate more on "defensive riding" than riding "correctly".

I completely agree. What I'm heading towards is; can I tell someone to open his eyes before turning, if I was the one weaving? 'If I always do what I've always done, I'll always get what I've always got.'

Well done! What is happening to South Africans? Doing something about it instead of just accepting the status quo and moaning. Maybe there is hope! ''If you can dream it you can do it!''

HR man came round at 11am, listenend to my story, then told me of THEIR concern: the driver concerned was promoted to driver/inspector on FRIDAY last week, after his immediate manager had ridden with him and adjudged him to be a competent driver... (he was previously in the packing shed). So 5 days later, and I'm in their offices, pointing out the error of his ways! So they will give him a written caution, keep him off driving for two weeks, then re-instate him. I do think he will be more careful on the roads from now on, and am impressed with the Company taking note of the seriousness of events. thanks, guys! http://www.themanorcottage.co.za

Thanks for sharing this Zebra Earlier this year I was also nearly taken out by a well known hotel's driver who pulled out from the hotel and swerved right across 3 lanes of traffic . I was also able to get his registration number and upon phoning his employer was told this that this was not the first complaint they had received about him and they thanked me for my concern and said they would investigate the driver 's driving . It is nice to be heard, and it can prevent the same culprit from driving recklessly in the future and it is especially good in your case that the company came around to see you , well done :) ''"4 wheels move the body,'' ''2 wheels move the soul"''

The latest sattelite traking will show the drivers pattern of driving (sattelite photos ) if you can record the time correctly.
