My back tyre was a bit iffie so I went to replace it on Thursday.

When I got there I was shown the new Anarkee 3 wild's and had them fitted.

Friday I left fr Oasis the Wupperthal and Gannanga lodge and home on Sunday all of 850km

After 525km the back tyre went flat and on inspection I find 8x knobblies on the right side of the back tyre started delaminating and tearing away frm the housing. The tyre was removed and a tube that I carry was fitted. I limped home not trusting what can happen.

Went back to the supplier Trac Mac on Monday and 30min later a new front and back was fitted with a cash refund.

Thank you Andy fr the help getting BMW Oncall's numbers. A call was logged and they never returned my call as promised.

We did locate a tyre repair mechanic for trucks that could help

What I have learned in 42deg heat was it is no fun to change the rubber on a radial or maybe any make of tyre. If I did not carry tubes I would still have been on that road.

No matter who say what it is impossible to carry the spares to do the job yourself or the over counter stuff that is sold to u's the users. Even after we fitted the tube, greased the rubber my compressor was to small to pop the tyre back into the rim.

Now I have some time and would like to do this job from start to finish. Witch BMW branch or sales shop is going to be brave enough to let me do the job in their shop let me know so we can set a date.

I will then supply a list of tools that I will used to do the job.

Normally we can come right with the small stuff but to change the rubber on the GS is no fun and why I had the incorrect numbers in my phone well?

If you can help let me me know

Ok let me post some answers that came to me I'l do so in point form.

1) I did 200 km on tar say 120-140 riding with 660 bikes the balance 325 was on dirt.

2) Ambient temp. 42°C add say 5°C for the road temp. and then add 5°C for friction the tyre temp must have been around 50°C. (I wonder if the tyre was tested for those conditions and on stony gravel roads)

3) I run my knobbies on tar at 3.2 bar and on dirt around 2.2 bar.

4) When I notice the back sway I did another 20 km before I stopped and yes it is a great tyre anything ells would have climbed off the rim. I pumped the back to 2 bar and could ride another 15 km I did so 3 times before I got to Ceres

5) The agents and TracMac replaced front and back without any hassle I am waiting for their report.

6) Stripping the tyre off the rim is a near impossible task with the radials, but I will make some changes to my tyre levers and when we have a demo day we can test them.

7) I carry front and back tubes when I go into remote areas so I fitted the back tube, oiled and soaped the rim and tyre but my compressor was to small to pop and seat the tyre into the bead it took nearly 4.5 bar to secure the tyre into the bead, who has specialized tools when you sitting in the sun no trees & 42°C.

8) Before I get more questions Yes I maybe were riding to fast on the dirt 160-170 and I do torque the bike in low speeds and gears. But I do so with all my tyre's and have never sheered the knobbies off my 10 months old & 14000 km bike and I am on my 3rd set of back tyre's. I also have a second rim with a road tyre that I fit for day to day riding Mon/ Fri and a rim with an off road tyre that I fit when I go into the sticks.

9) Will I fit them again YES on the back the radials are great and YES if I get a reply from TracMac to the problem. In the front NEVER again they are to irritatingly noisy I will stick to Pirelli or Karoo's in the front where I get 6000 km and are happy with that.

10) I will arrange a rim and tyre and we can then setup a demo day just let me know if there are anyone interested  (Mail me on stephen@apba.co.za

the member that do wont to come can bring their own tool and then get busy practicing

You and Andy can then maybe be around to assist and help

I do not kow if I will get a Radial tyre but will try to

When is the next club meeting Jan or Fed and can you get their approval

Regards (0727199235 pls call)

I still went to test these tyres (Anakee Wild).

What may be of interest was that Stephen was not told to "not deflate the tyres"............for off road use.

Chris you could maybe follow this up with the supplier and confirm the "deflation" story or otherwise.

Geoff what is the recommended pressure for the for the Wild tyre's as most fitment centers ask me what pressure I want?

Again there are no recommended tables at the fitment centers and we go with wat we the individuals like.

I for one run on tar at 3 to 3.2bar and on dirt 2 to 2.2bar

Scanning the web for recommended pressures I find the OE recommendation of 32-36PSI

32PSI = 2.206Bar & 36PSI = 2.482Bar

From the Michelin wedsite test review

Was I in the recommended range you decide?

I have since find postings on the web of the same problem and nowhere have I seen a positive answer from the suppliers I hope we are going to get a reply

All I can quote is the BMW recommended pressure which I think is 2.9 back and 2.5 front. I don't think there is a recommended "off road" pressure.

I've read on various tests on these tyres that Michelin does not recommend airing down these (Radial) tyres.

Maybe something to be aware of or question?
