Vernon it is a NICE lift. I was a bit sceptical about the "Chineese" import - but it is very nice. ALL the safeties, nice castors to move it around on, and then foot pieces that are lowered to stabilize it while using the lift. Good non-slip surface for the bike to stand on. A little upward lip on the sides to stop tools rolling off the lift. Two height positions, with safety stops at each point. Nice rubber lining on the front wheel clamp, to not damage the bike, etc. etc. etc. You can come look at it at my place - but by that time the last lift will be gone allready.

Vernon, if we get another 10 people (or more) together, we can bring them in again. Due to exchange rates and heavy steel price increase, they will be a bit more expensive, but still reasonable. Compared to the normal selling prices, they are dirt cheap. If we get enough people together we can also bring in generators and scooters at very good prices. I already imported a load of scooters and quad bikes which were all sold at cost price to friends and company staff. This all started because I wanted a scooter for myself. We got an importers license for motorcycles, scooters etc. How it all started We are importing our "German" pumps from China. The German company has them manufactured in China to their standards. One of the people I was dealing with left the company and started with a motorcycle manufacturer. He then contacted me and offered me his products. I asked some friends if they were interested and, as the word goes, we quickly had enough interested parties to make the exercise worthwhile. I did however not know what a hassle it would be to get the importers license and the SABS certificate for the scooters. But we went through the procedure and got it. It would even be a business opportunity for someone that wants to start his own business in the scooter trade. For the ones that did not know, Vespa has moved its production plant for scooters to China!! www.wode.co.za

Good to know, thanks Wolfgang! You wouldn't perhaps have some printed matter on the items available?

Millroy, if you are talking about a "project bike" talk to Christo Engelbreght. He is in the final stages of restoring a R100RS (I think). He has a stunning website that has the micro-fish for all these bikes. When you need something go on the web confirm what you get the RIGHT part number, go to you rfriendly BMW dealer and order the part. It is "slightly" expensive but VERY effective. Maybe Christo will have a thread about the do's and dont's of restoring a bike. I do know that he will tell you MANY tales of the project over a braai fire. :)

I am actually looking for something not too ambitious as my first project. Something like an F650GS or a PE250/350 or XT500 or a KLR or similar that has been in a minor prang or has been badly neglected and the owner does not want an arm and a leg for it. I don't have much knowledge but I think I might enjoy the challenge. If I get stuck I know there is a wealth of knowledge right here on the forum that I can refer back to. If anybody knows of anything suitable I would be eternally gratefull.

There are a few things to remember before even starting with a project. Will it be a classic, a vintage or just fixing a bike for normal use. What do you want to achieve? (How far are you willing to go with the restoration?) How much money are you willing to spend? Remember that bike spares are very expensive. A small project can run out of hand without you noticing and that will put you under a lot of financial pressure. You may never be able to recover the money spend on the project.

This is a brilliant piece of machinery. The picture tells you nothing, You should see it. I have three bikes in my garage and this lift is so big, it can not fit next to these bikes. The one bike sits on the lift permanently. (Must add, there are so many other pieces of machinery in my garage, even I got a problem to move around when the bikes are in the garage.)
