Dear Club Members

It is four weeks ago that we went on this trip which I was so looking forward to. It was also to be the first official ride that I was going to have with the Club since I had the unfortunate fall - also referred to as a side stand incident - on the Gysmanshoek Pass on 24 September when I broke my right ankle.

Although I am not superstitious, I was painfully aware of the date (13-01-13) as I am, and has long ago accepted to be Very Extremely Accident Prone (VEAP).  Close friends cannot actually believe that I have ventured out of bed that morning.  “What were you thinking……….?

Unfortunately I remember very little of that day and do not even have a “snap shot” of what actually occurred that lead to another so called “more serious incident”.  What I do know however is that I  might have ruined the ride for some as I believe Althea, her husband Pieter(?) and Pete – and possibly others - had to look after me until I could be fashionably transported off to hospital in Oudtshoorn.

Geoff, I will not blame you if you do not allow me to ride with you ever again as by now you must regard me as a liability and might even consider to cancel the ride if my name comes up!!.

All jokes aside, a huge round of thanks and appreciation to all concerned who assisted me on the day as well as Donford Motorrad that recovered my bike. As stated before, I unfortunately have no recollection whatsoever of what happened on the day.

Apart from a very bruised ego, my beautiful BMW F650GS – CL 10601 - has been written off in the process. As you can imagine dear family and friends are not keen that I pursue my “motorcycling career” but, as I am recovering from a serious head trauma, I am not going to make any commitments at this stage. But if I only have to listen to my heart, my mind has been made up!!

Back to office on Monday full well realizing that I will have to monitor myself and not “overdo” things in order to recover 100%.
