We got off to a shaky start when half the group congregated at the Engen in Panorama (which I thought was the Plattekloof Engen) and the other half congregated at the Engen in Plattekloof.  I realised that there was a problem at about twenty past eight and managed to rectify my mistake and still leave only fifteen minutes later than scheduled.

This is a classic half day ride which offers open highway, easy mountain passes, rural agricultural landscape, mountain views, tight challenging passes and finally open, clear twisties where a rider can easily push the envelope if you are prepared to risk the fines.

Route followed the boring but easy N1 to Du Toitskloof pass, where some of the speedier riders broke away to clear some cobwebs from their engines, while most of us just cruised through at a sedate pace.  We regrouped at the bottom of the pass before following the Rawsonville road into the back of Worcester, to The Barn, where we stopped for breakfast.

Much networking, BS and good laugher was shared over the farmhouse breakfast and coffee and everybody was fed and ready to roll within an hour, due to first class service.  A big thank you to Nola and her staff.

Next leg of the ride took us to Villiersdorp on our way to the Franschhhoek pass.  This was the portion to just chill out enjoying the view of the cultivated lands and surrounding mountains.  We were supposed to have a ‘bum break’ before tackling the pass but due to lack of safe parking and ‘no numb bum’ we just sailed on through.  This is a pass that always beckons a rider to go just a little faster, so it needs to be treated with respect as there are some wicked hair pin bends that are easily over cooked.

The group congregated in the shade at the end of the pass where half the people chose to stop off at the Franschhook Station Pub and Grill and the rest of us headed off home via Helshoogte.  This pass is a pleasure for the big BM’s as you can barrel through the S-bends at quite a lick, with tons of road to play with, traffic permitting.  A lot of fun was had on this pass by the remaining riders.  After a short wait at the end of the pass we bade one and other farewell and headed our respective routes home at the predicted lunch time.

I don’t think that I’ll ever tire of riding this route, either way it is such a blast.  Hope that all the riders reached home safely and I look forward to sharing the road with all of you again soon.

At last I have managed to update the photos to the trip report.  Have a 114 Mb slide show that seems to be too large to attach to the trip report.

Maybe I'll ask for some help from the web master.

Enjoy.
