What do you get when you take a brave and intrepid ride leader - Oh Captain (& crème soda) my Captain! Add in a mob of disparate yet eager adventure riders, a more or less equal mix of 800's and 1200's and you have all the ingredients for a real live adventure. And so our brave explorers gathered bright and early one Friday morning for breakfast at the Winelands Wimpy to fortify themselves against the tribulations sure to follow.
Thanks once again to Wernich Stipp from Barons Volkswagen in Tokai for offering us the use of a fantastic Volkswagen Amarok, back up crew and fuel.
So folks, thanks to Barons, the price for accomodation and meals is all it is going to cost you for this fantastic weekend ride to Oudtshoorn.
The multitude of fantastic routes to use to get to Oudtshoorn and back has us in a bit of a spin. For the dirties there is the Swartberg Pass, Seweweekspoort, Rouxpos, and easily some of the most fantastic dirt roads in the Province.
So after 17 years together, countless camping trips and quite a few bike trips, you’d think I’d know the love of my life quite well.
Saturday morning, 05H00, alarm goes off and the usual question is asked still half asleep, “Morning Love, are you sure you want to go”. The usual answer is also received, “not really, but we’ve paid”. It’s an old Cederberg 4x4 joke we’ve been doing for years and we still do it every time we have to get up at an unusual hour. But once you’re up, dressed you really do begin to look forward to the weekend and the adventure ahead.
Off to Geoff’s place to collect Noelene as promised and then high tail it to the meeting point at the BP garage at Klapmuts.
