Margate Bike Fest 2018

Five of the club members decided to attend the Margate Bike Fest this year.

This is not a traditional report of where we went and what we saw but much more about the human camaraderie between the riders on the journey.

Enough said, just watch the video that Henri Basson kindly prepared on returning to find out more.

The route we took is certainly worth the ride offering great views on routes that are not often traveled.

Why do we ride? Why do we breathe?

Why do we ride? Why do we breathe?

As they say, I am the one who has the guts, the stupid one, the third wheel…I am the pillion also known as Paparazzi.

[BMW Breakfast Ride to Barrydale with Neels – 21/01/2018]

The reality of the day is still lingering like the dust on my rims of yesterday’s ride. The Duckling and me have been in a steady relationship now for about 8 weeks, but we keep our bonding time limited to approximately 200kms at a time.

[B] Beautiful Borders of Barrydale – [Route 62 also known as the Blacktop Highway]

We were invited to join Jani's brother and some of their friends to go to the Warmwaterberg Spa outside Barrydale this past weekend. The weather forecast for the weekend was looking good and without much persuasion we decided to go on 2 wheels.

Here are Jani's report of our quick little trip that we've done.

Swimming in the Baviaans

Prequel

The initial plan for the December holiday season was a different type of RR: Rest and Recover; not Ride Report. Yet all it took was an invitation from previous neighbours (now living in Plett) to visit. That got the brain ticking. Why only Plett? Is not Baviaans somewhere in that general direction? Leave applications were sent, accommodation bookings were hastily made and Lance and I headed off 2 weeks later.

Solo Sojourns

Some think it folly, others madness, even dangerous and few are in agreement, to take long bike trips by oneself is the ultimate riding experience.

Is it not lonely, boring or intimidating are often the responses to hearing about such a trip?  Well it is actually wonderfully selfish.  You go, start and stop when or wherever you want.  Travel at a speed that suites yourself.  The Route can be changed on a whim and places explored without considering anybody else.
