When the Swazi's travelled down the escarpment to the Lowveld at the turn of the century they said "Shiyalongubo" (Leave your blankets up here, as you wont be needing them down in the Lowveld) and so the original footpath which eventually became a road -forged by an enterprising local, Bob Pettigrew, adopted the somewhat of a tongue-twister African name permanently. The pass is not that difficult but it can be fun in the wet stuff. Stunning scenery and gold mining history makes this a bucket list pass and if you enjoy small-mouth bass fishing, the dam at the end of the pass is an additional attraction.
