The training session caters to all,  from beginners, through to intermediate and advanced riders. Depending on these levels of expertise, riders will be split into groups accordingly and put through their paces under the watchful eye of qualified instructors. All makes of motorcycles are welcome and the more participants and bikes out on the track, the better.

Why?

It’s NOT about hurtling down the racetrack at breakneck speeds trying to become the next Valentino Rossi, but rather a training session, in a controlled safe environment and on a road surface where riders can practice their lines, cornering, braking & reaction time without having to deal with on-coming traffic, speed limits, road signs and pedestrians.

This will be a morning to remember with some valuable lessons, tips and FUN!

We have nearly reached our number of 30 people.  We are opening the track event to guys who have never been to a track session (1st timers) and beginners.  Cool

You may have been riding a while - but don't have too many kms under the belt or are nervous when you have to ride the passes (ahem).  (Only well-behaved men on the track please - the chicks will be out there!) Kiss

R400.00 per person paid up front - a really reasonable price - non-refundable if you don't pitch on the day.

Please contact me urgently anne@abarc.co.za or 082 421 0003 to book or find out more info.

We will make a decision by close of today as to whether we cancel or go ahead.

Hi

Thanks Annie. I have been living next to Killarney for the last 11 years without the opportunity to ride on it with a bike. I am looking forward to improving my riding skills. Sunday promises to be a great day:

See map attached

Killarney MapKillarney Map

Circuit: 3.267 Km, Tarmac Surface

Direction: Clockwise

Tel Nos:  Anne Connell – coordinator – 082 421 0003

Start Time:  08h00 – registrations, bike scrutineering and grouping – please do not be late.

Our lecture will start punctually at 08H30

Finish Time:  12:30

What you need:

  1. Your own motorcycle (2 wheels) of any make/model and size in a roadworthy condition eg tyres, brakes etc.
  2. Your motorcycle to be fully fuelled – there is a fuel station close by along Potsdam/Koeberg Road, should you run out of fuel.  Tyres to be inflated to ideal pressure for your bike.
  3. Wear:  Full-faced helmet with visor, riding gloves (not fingerless/half-finger), boots, riding jacket and pants.  You may or may not have some of these items yet – but it will be good to save up and purchase them as you go along.
  4. If you have top-boxes or luggage on your bike, these will have to be removed.
  5. Mirrors will be taped with masking tape during scrutineering to avoid glass on the track.
  6. Your driver’s or leaner’s licence.
  7. Remember to put on sunblock.  The sun will definitely be out there in full force.
  8. Water.  The track organisers have promised that there will be a canteen open, selling the standard hotdogs etc.

Our instructors for the morning:

  1. Max Lange
  2. Peter O’Hanlon
  3. Stavros Michel
  4. Wayne Rosser
  5. Neil Terry
  6. Ivan Fiford

A huge thanks to all of instructors for giving up their valuable time to assist us!

During your “intervals”, please feel free to ask your instructors anything questions you may have.  They are there to assist and offer constructive criticism and guidance.  Groups will be out on the track for 20 min sessions.  This may seem a short time, but believe me, it is a long time when you are out there concentrating and focusing!

Thank you Anne and all the intructors for organising this day - and all your patience with us beginners. Paul had loads of fun racing down the straights in the intermediate group.

I can now say I understand how conrners work and have much more confidence.

My confidence is increasing exponentially - thanks again everyone.

Wow! What an amazing experience! Thank you to Anne, the instructors and track staff who made this track day possible. I enjoyed this immensly and learned so much about my bike:

  • how quickly one scrubs off speed - with only the front brake.
  • That braking and downgears should happen prior to entering the corner so that the bike can settle, and lift when you apply throttle to take you through a corner.
  • How to choose your line through corners - and that riding on the kerb was NOT the best line through a corner.
  • That corner 4 was one corner, and not two!☺
  • Moving your weight through corners to make you go faster.
  • And that it is OK to scrape footpegs through corners - the bike will hang on!
  • And of course, to look up through corners, and remember to open up the throttle.
  • Lastly, to blast down the straight on a F800GS at 180 like a hooligan...

The day went really well!

PeterO and I were doing the scrutineering,... me taping up the mirrors, Lynn asked me why this was being done, I replied "that it was to prevent the ladies and gents from applying lipstick in the corners, as they had other things to focus on"...it must have satisfied her as she didn't question me further.

I also taped up PeterO's GPS...he never got lost once!!!!, so the taping-up must have worked!

Then PeterO again!... I don't know if he's Catholic or not, (I know Cloudgazer isn't), but he let his 'lights shine before men'; more correctly his bikes spotlights, thereby flattening his bike's battery nearly an instructor lost before the action....a jump start from my van resurrected his bike, hallelujah!! This gent still offered to help fix Warren's GPS????????????

I bought bottled water which I over-nighted in the fridge, and then forgot them in the flat!!

I also seem to have lost x1 BMW GS glove....if anyone has found it,or has recently lost a right hand, and now has a RH glove spare, please PM me or get my cell no from Anne.

I know George R recently lost a middle finger..it will cause a bit of a blank in some people when he tries to express his feelings about their poor driving to them!

To all who attended, well done, it really was a pleasure to be out there with you all.

There was a REALLY nice atmosphere, both on and off the track, really nice to see the courage and enthusiasm.

My work should permit me some weekends off again shortly, I'll try to be available to take some beginner tar rides, I'll let Anne know.

Thanks for the kind words Neil.  For the record I have never been lost.  I might have misplaced a turnoff or two but at least I've never misplaced my glove.  (If you'd left your hand in it you wouldn't have lost it!)

btw thanks for the use of your battery - recharged my faith in humanity and put me back on (the) track, even though you're not one of the chosen few!

If you can dream it you can do it!

Pete, going by what I heard from people on your Namibian Trip, you misplaced Namibia at one stage, and a town or two in Namibia too!

As to my glove, I found it moments after finishing our cell call....did you ever swim in / at Lourdes??
