Date:  25 June 2011

Time:  08:30 - 12:00

Venue: Montague Gardens area - will confirm by email once booking is received.

Convenor  :Max Lange

Includes improving basic road skills such as cornering, emergency braking, etc

NB this will not suit people who have not ridden a motorbike before.

Please bring your own motorbike.  Cool

So if you are a lady and are new to biking, this would be excellent for you.  If you are not a club member and want to meet some of our ladies, and learn a few things - you are most welcome!

But if you are an old hand at biking you might want to re-learn these skills for extra confidence or un-learn some bad riding habits you've picked up over the years.  Perhaps you've not been riding very often and are now not that confident anymore? OR if you've purchased a new bike and would like to become more familiar with it...

There will be cost involved.  Obviously if it rains on the dayFoot in mouth the event will be postponed.

We plan to follow the training up on Sunday the 26th with a lovely local passes tour, incorporating a breakfast or brunch stop - weather permitting of course.

To Book:  Please email me on anne@abarc.co.za or feel free to call me on 082 421 0003.

To Max and Neil

What a brilliant training session you gave us 8 ladies who braved the cold on Saturday Morning!

We even had one come out all the way from Malmesbury, another lady made her way from Stellenbosch via Monte Vista back to Montague Gardens.

I have not been to road basics training since practising for my K53 4 years ago on my 650GS.  And I was very sure that I had picked up some bad habits since then, since a lot of my "techniques" and riding styles were all learnt by fear and error!

I was quickly reminded by Max that off-road techniques and styles are not necessarily good on-road techniques.  From positioning my feet on the pegs to the way I grabbed the front brake...I was really put through my paces, and very surprised at what my 1200GS can do in small spaces even though I've already put 45000kms on its clock in the 1½ years I've had the bike.

I knew I could do cones standing up, but could I do them sitting down?Sealed

As for emergency braking, well, the only practice I've had is, well - in an emergency.  Oh yes, and I found that I only used my back brake occasionally for uphill starts and on the off-road.  I'd forgotten that I could use it to regulate my speed in the slow stuff...

Jaqui made posted another comment over here: http://www.bmwmotorcycleclubcape.co.za/ladies-road-skills-basics-trainin...

All I can say is again a BIG THANK YOU to Max and Neil, our star teachers!

I will definitely be coordinating another one of these sessions.

I’m glad we were able to impart our knowledge and that all enjoyed the session. It was great to see everyone improving as the day progressed. Perhaps the guys are also interested in improving some of their road skills. A special thanks to Anne who made all the arrangements.

Thanks, I thoroughly enjoyed the morning...x2 highlights:

Firstly, and most importantly, in the braking exercise, the ladies in my group were REALLY practicing braking, not  just enough to get "OK, next".....the ABS was clacking away each time....

Then I suggested a water break...."Yes, but first we need to visit the powder room!"....Okay,  Makro will be the best...lets go, I'll  let Max know that I'm taking the ladies to the ladies....

Now they are at this moment fairly stoked as a little earlier Max showed them the easy way to get their bike onto the center stands....bikes being a R1200R and a 650 twin and x2 650 singles.....the 650 twin and x1 single had loud pipes ...remember this fact later...

Now x3 of them headed for Makro and I had the x1 lady who was very much a novice on the back of the 180 cc Bajaj with me...informed Max then to Makro we go...

Now a car guard tries telling the x3 ladies to park their bikes near the entrance ....they parked all x3 in a car parking....I met this 'pecked into submission' fellow ...he waved me in to their parking bay...and tried to regain some pride by announcing how he would look after the bikes....

Now as I was wearing blue I went to the gents! Was quite in there!

Now the fun watching peoples faces....X3 ladies revving big silver bikes with loud pipes, and this fellow on a little blue bike with a lady on the back meekly following as we tried to move through those entering and exiting...the looks...priceless!

Perhaps we ought to hold a bi-sexual training morning like this??
