2007 has been a busy year for the club, with many rides. Breakfast runs, Nelson’s Creek, Sutherland and also the annual tour to Oudtshoorn, not to mention the numerous off road rides. What better way to round of this year than a DAY ride? This will be a tar ride with all bikes welcome to join us for a day ride through the KOO Valley. 8:00 start from Engen Plattekloof, with a breakfast stop along the way. After De Doorns we will turn right to get to the KOO Valley. With any luck Niel will take care of the “Rossi squad” in the many twisty sections. Hopefully they will then wait for us to regroup. Lunch could be had at any number of places, depending on the stops and mood of the day. This would be at least 400 km for the day, with multiple stops for those that need to “rest”. OK, so when will this day ride take place? On Saturday 15 December is a race day at Killarney with the 800cc having their debut. Monday 17 December is an “All bike” day at Killarney. Thus Sunday 16 December 2007 is the only remaining day for this run. Who’s in for this day run? Date: Sunday, 16 December 2007 Time: 8:00 Place: Engen Plattekloof Route: KOO Valley

Why not stop at THE DOCKS restaurant in Montague for a meal. Great venue with tables on a veranda and aroud the pool. Why not take your trunks if its a hot day. Of course the shameless plug is for my Aunt's restaurant. They enjoyed seeing a bunch of us enjoying our meals en route from Oudtshoorn and would love to have you guys stop and visit. If I'm not in Durban for that weekend, I will be along for the ride. Cheers Lawrence

Hey Padlangs, She is still stuck in 3rd gear (not that I ride much faster mind you) so will take some time to reach 80kph. With any luck I will have sold the Aprillia by Xmas and have her on a GS650!! So we shall need to be patient with her. She is sure to pillion though.

Geoff, remember I also ride slow - as long as the sun shines. That is why Niel goes along - he takes care of the "others", while we enjoy a slow cruise.

Hi TvN, It depends on the number of people that take part in the event. WORST case: Speed limit till we get to the twisties, then "some" go have fun, while I hang back with the rest. After the twisties they stop and wait for us. BEST case: If enough people show up we can split into two groups. Geoff or Niel can take the "regulars". I will then hang back and ride slowly with the newbies. If we ride slower, but have less stops, we get the same places as they do -probably at the same time. This is part of a fast growing club. Today you join the slower group, tomorrow you ride with the regulars, AND there will be a new group of newbies. It is holiday time and we are all there to have fun - at a speed with which you are comfortable.

Padlangs, Neil Terry is aging fast and hence the slow pace and as for you when you have placed the knobbies on the bike you will be able to ride properly. Gongrats on the award the other evening, well deserved. Bum in the saddle, always.

I will ask my doctor if my back can take a long ride so soon, might need a temporary back brace, or kidney belt, anyone have one for sale? PS my doctor is anti-bikes. For those who do not know I had a Diam implant. For those interested - it allows more movement than a disc fusion. The device is primarily a shock absorber that fits in-between two vertebrae. The shape of the implant provides stability by means of extended wings bracing the spinous processes. It claims to allow "optimal mechanical behavior in compression and flexion." It is inserted in posterior surgery where part of the intraspinous ligament is removed and then the implant is fastened between two vertebrae using ligatures that are passed around the upper and lower spinous processes. Materials: The Diam is a silicone interspinal cushioning device covered with polyethylene. Surgical Procedure: The site for the implant is prepared by elevating the supraspinous ligament, resecting the interspinous neo-contacts, trimming the spinous processes, and smoothing the lamina-spinous process.

Sounds somehow like Red Bull. I only saw the extended wings. :-) Remember that any doctor will go for the longest period to heal. Your body will give you the only true reflection of what it is capable of at any specific time. Do not be stupid and do stuff that your body does not want to do, but do not always take what the doctor say as gospel.

Hi Geoff, Won't have the VStrom as that has now been sold. Choice now is a Dakar or the RT. (The Dakar won't be run in yet). The KOO valley ride is picking up steam. The lunch venue in Montaque has been confirmed for 12:30. Surfice to say that it is going to be STUNNING!! :) I was again reminded that there is a swimming pool. If the weather is anything like last Sunday - bring your "gear" along!! :) This going to be a proper DAY ride. Normal 8:00 start at Engen. Probably only back late afternoon - definately before sun down.

Who knows of a nice spot for coffee, just outside Worcestor on Sunday? Maybe even a light breakfast. I take it we will NOT support the DROS in Worcestor. :) We have booked lunch in Montaque for 12:30.

Well, we hope to see many of you on Sunday. The Docks is ready and waiting and the described menu left me salivating. It's a 3 course lunch (also an ala carte menu) so having something in Worcester is only going to spoil your appetite. Believe me, when you get there, you'll be thankful for saving yourself. :-) We've booked lunch for 12h30 so not too late, but late enough to arrive ravenous. See you Sunday, Lawrence ;-) Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safetly in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadsides, loudly proclaiming WOW, What a RIDE!

Padlangs I'm on the West Coast and want to join you guys (and Girls) for this trip. If you say 08h00 at Engen Plattekloof I'm sure you refer to the Engen Garage on the left as you drive from the N1 towards Panorama Clinic? I'll be leaving Saldanha at about 06h00 to meet up with the group at 08h00.
The ride is the destination.

HEAVY RAIN FORECAST ON SUNDAY Christo, your ride, you make the call. As best as I can find out, the rain is scheduled for tonight and tomorrow morning, before lightening up for an overcast afternoon. Wind is forecast at 17kph (am) increasing to 34kph afternoon. I've not seen a news report yet, but if anyone does, please add to the item. (Mum called with the prophecy of the end of the world, and Noah is building the Ark!). I'll be at the meeting point as my foul weather gear is top quality. 'Ello Lads and Ladettes, Glad to hear you got home safetly. Looking forward to everyone else checking in to say they got home safetly. Christo (Padlangs), thanks for a great ride and thanks to the others who, despite the foul conditions, were tempted by the mouthwatering lunch in Montague. We were having a nice dry ride home, seems we were between fronts, and then Wolf (gang) went and had a blowout on the N1 just before Du Toits Kloof pass. Enough time spent frittering around with it to allow the storm to catch up. The ride over Du Toits Kloof was not pleasant where, at one point, we had to have our hazards flasing just to see each other in the mist. But hell, a great adventure, the most delicious meal ever, great company and a nice spa bath when I got home. Now that's a day of living. Thanks all, Lawrence Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safetly in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadsides, loudly proclaiming WOW, What a RIDE!

Those that missed this ride sorry ,you missed a GREAT ONE !!! Yes it was wet VERY wet yet what an experiece ,riding to ,and over Du Toit`s kloof nice and smooth , yet nice pace,THEN some silly old duffer decides the pace in the rain is a little slow (possible incontinence problems)so shoots in just behind my back wheel trying to prevoke,as a good club member I remained on station ,he then shot passed all incl. Padlangs & Greta ,this time a bite.. Jane shot out & followed I the had to follow to keep & eye on things @140-180 in the wet!!! to Worcester Shell-Steers for coffee, where Johan & Tracey joined us.

Today, for the first time in my life, I stopped next to the road, got off my Beemer, went down on my knees and thanked the Lord. Honestly! Between the Lord and ABS my life was saved. After I’ve turned towards Ceres from the N1 two bakkies were in front of me. We were doing about 120kms. The next moment the driver of the first bakkie realised she had to turn towards Slanghoek and locked the brakes of her Bantam. The driver of the second bakkie overreacted and also locked her brakes. The next moment, there were a Bantam and a Corsa sliding sideways in the road. Of course this happened on a wet road in the rain. It was a hell of a smash. Both bakkies were written off. Fortunately nobody was “fatally wounded.” There was also no oncoming traffic which could have turned the whole affair into an even bigger gemors. Only the Lord will know how I’ve succeeded in missing the accident. I don’t think I was more than 10 meters behind the second bakkie. Their luggage was also flying all over the place. I can only image what would have happened if I’ve left the tar and neutralised my ABS. I’m still a bit shaky! In all, I should thank Padlangs and all the other members of the club for a very great and interesting first ride. Though it was raining, I thoroughly enjoyed the ride and the conversations.
The ride is the destination.

CAGERS AND DARWIN Sadly, the roads were littered with the ineptitude of drunk and inexperienced drivers. The Toyota Tazz outside Montague was a wreck as it was dragged out of the gulley by a crane. Too much dope, and the dope behind the wheel felt he was invincible. We had way too many of these on the N1 after the tunnel that, by the time Wolfgang peeled off, trying formation riding was simply becoming ridiculously dangerous. Looking forward to the fodies, Lawrence Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safetly in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadsides, loudly proclaiming WOW, What a RIDE!

LMG I'm glad that you are safe my friend, these things happen so damn quick.... As we came into CPT there was an accident on the N1 where the BMW involved was on the far left off the road into the rugby field of the shool on the left....(just after the old oak bridge)as heading in to CPT. The amount of drunken drivers on the road today was insane, we also havd our fair share of this. It was very nice meeting you and I am looking forward to the next ride together. Keep it SAFE !!
