Knee replacement

Almost 15 months ago Christo Engelbreght had an "incident" on the way home on a Friday afternoon. A truck crossed a over into his lane and the wheel "degloved" his knee (loosened all the mussle and flesh from the bone structure). That would have still been okay, but as he moved away from the truck the massive wheelnuts shattered his knee. I used the term incident rather than accident because he still drove his bike after getting away from the truck. The "fun" started when he stopped, as he put out his foot the knee gave way and he fell over. Some operations followed to repair the flesh wound, followed by some skin grafts. Only after this was done would the doctors go in and work on the broken bones in the knee. By now some of the bonestructure had started dying away. A few months later it was clear that the knee was not going to get better. BAD NEWS the skin grafts had attached itself DIRECTLY onto the bones of the knee, no tissue inbetween. A massive 9 hour operation followed to redo the skin graft - a thick slab of stake to have tissue between the skin and the bone. This was followed by another long operation the next day to ensure that the graft took properly. Apparently the "jumper" leads were used a couple of times during these two long operations. On Thursday Christo went in for the long awaited knee replacement. :) A "short" 5 hour operation. 30 hours later ALL the signs are GOOD!!! ;) For those who are not sure who Christo Engelbreght is - he is the guy that rides a 1200 RT and an 800 ST WITH a KIERIE between his legs! Hopefully that kierie can now be laid to rest. Christo is currently in Durbanville Medi Clinic, room C02. Beste wense ou maat.

We visited ChristoE on Sunday night. He is doing GOOD!! :) Two days after a complete knee replacement and he already walks to the bathroom using a pair of crutches. He has thus far been pain free - after 15 months of constant pain. It would seem this has been a truly successfull operation.
