Kingtek and Andrew King has relocated to Durban.  His BMW servicing equipment and diagnostic tools has [ed: not] been sold to Marco Colaianni of Bike Mania. [ed: See comment at bottom of this thread.]

Innocent was trained in servicing BMW bikes by Andrew King, and is now working there as the mechanic.

Bike Mania is in the Kirstenhof Shopping Centre - over Main Rd from the Spotty Dog (https://goo.gl/maps/ALDvngZemnG2).

Where'd you hear this?

I know Andrew moved to Durban, but from my last conversation with him and Innocent on the day they closed (22 Dec), Andrew indicated that he was opening a workshop in Durban (he showed me pictures of the new venue). Innocent said he was going with Andrew to Durban. Andrew was taking all his equipment with him. He told me that was why he was renting out the old place until the end of Jan, in order to give more time to move all his stuff. Gift (his other staff member) was going to work in the same complex, but next door (not as a mechanic).

Unless something went very wrong with his plans and everything has changed in the 2 weeks since? That would be terrible. I really hope this is not the case.

Hi Zanie

Innocent phoned me to tell me that he is now working at Bike Mania, and Mario of Bike Mania emailed me to inform me of the new situation.  It seems Andrew changed his plans.

I'm sure Andrew is fine.  Instead of moving his equipment he has sold it, and is free to buy new equipment in Durban.  Innocent and Gift are sorted, and so are we because there is BMW servicing capability in our neighbourhood.

Don't panic - just ride wink

thanks Charles, I too chatted with Andrew to see if there was any equipment he was selling, etc. (we refer quite a few out-of-warranty customers to him, as well as to Jandre Koekemoer...)

Good to know there is still a Southern Suburbs BMW servicing opportunity - thanks for updating us all!

Andrew phoned me today to correct the misinformation being spread about his relocation:

  1. Andrew relocated with all his BMW equipment.  Nothing at all was sold to Innocent or anybody else.  This means there is no proper full BMW servicing capability at Bike Mania as implied by Innocent or Marco.
  2. The apparent 'sudden change of plan' was due to Innocent handing in his resignation on Andrew's last day in Cape Town and taking up at Bike Mania (along with a stolen copy of Andrew's customer base it seems).
  3. Andrew is sorry if any of this fallout from his relocation to Durban has negatively affected any of his customers.  He had done everything ecologically and mindfully, but others seem to have had their own agenda to the detriment of the good standing he had.

Personally, I had already decided that I would be taking Mr.Badger and Brenda Buttercup to Donford BMW Motorrad Cape Town to be serviced with the skill and care of Douglas and Shane.

That was exactly what Andrew told me the last time I saw him (that he was taking all his equipment with), which was why I was so puzzled.

That is also why I switched to the dealership rather than go to Bike Mania. I figured something was suspect. Now my 650GS is poor Shane's problem. I think it's giving him headaches already.

If your bike is in Shane's hands there will never be a headache.

There's no headache from my side, but poor Shane...

My bike's been there 2 times now and the mystery jerky-riding-resembles-fuel-starvation issue is not yet sorted. Andrew (Kingtek) checked the fuel system (1 visit), Shane went through my wiring loom with a fine-toothed comb to check for damage, and he replaced the motronic relays (2 visits). The next step is to start swapping some major parts (i.e. control unit) and see whether that helps.

Unfortunately my bike behaved beautifully whenever Shane rode it. The problem is very intermittent, but Lance has felt it, so he knows I'm not crazy. I've had a jerky-riding bike now since the end of last year. It's still rideable though. Or, at least, it was until it sprung a fuel leak 3 weeks ago. It's heading back to Shane on the 10th.
