As you are probably all aware by now, the selling of alcohol thing at the Multi Motor Club has been shut down. We do not / are not operating under the liquor license held by the rugby club and we cannot afford to, and will not break any laws in this regard. There are no loop holes in the law and the SAP in fact raided a CTMC meeting fairly recently.

Thus the club paid for the alcohol at the last night’s meeting, a trend we can obviously not continue with, unfortunately.

So, after speaking to Jacques Botha on our recent Boegoeberg trip, he did some ground work and a few of us attended a meeting with the committee at the Goodwood Sports Club recently and from February, we will move our monthly meetings to their venue at 55 Milton Road, Goodwood, not even 4km from the current location.

http://www.goodwoodsportsclub.co.za/

Basically the deal we struck is as follows.

They wanted at least 30 of our members to join the Goodwood Sports Club as country members at a cost of R100.00 per year per member. Last night, we quickly signed up over 40 members and the BMW MCC will pay for these memberships for this year. These new members are free to use any of the facilities at the Goodwood Sports Club anytime, as they become fully fledged members, and anyone else who wants to join is also welcome under this arrangement between the BMW MCC and the Goodwood Sports Club, at a cost of a mere R100.00.

As we have over thirty members join, we are able to hold our monthly meeting, free of charge, on the last Tuesday of every month as normal, in their ladies bar & lapa which will be exclusively reserved for us.

The ladies bar is a stunning venue. Not only do we have a licensed bar, with barman, air conditioning, and carpets, the big sliding doors open onto the lapa area with benches and seats and braai’s – all under thatch. They will ready the venue for us, pack out chairs, light fires etc. Our members will also be able to order snack baskets or food from the kitchen if they don’t want to braai. They will also give us place on the wall where all the other paraphernalia is to display our club items, posters etc.

They have safe, secure off street parking and the possibilities for using the club and its facilities are endless. We can do meets there before rides, they do breakfasts, lunches (apparently their Sunday lunches are quite famous), and twice a year we can use the entire venue for functions or whatever. Training days etc., anything can be done there.

“Non members” of the Goodwood Sports Club who arrive for the BMW MCC meetings will merely be required to sign themselves in, in the register.

They have a few rules, no caps, sleeveless shirts or flops, oh and no fighting or swearing, but they will attend our first meeting there and give us a proper introduction to the Goodwood Sports Club.

We think that the move will be absolutely great for the club and therefore we ask for your support in making this move a success. We truly believe that many of our members will benefit beyond biking with this new home from home.

So if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me.

Its a great venue. I have used it for informal corporate product launches and potjie competitions quite a few times. It rocks!

Thanks Warren, Jacques & team for solving our little drinking problem.  That sounds excellent.

I look forward to the next meeting at the new venue.  The meeting place itself is the least of the thimgs that make this such a great club.

I thought I would post some pictures and a Google map of the place for everyone to make it easy next week.  The Goodwood Sports Club Facebook page has a map showing a place near the River Club in Hartleyvale.  I am guessing this is an automated map taking the address and finding a Milton street that is not in Goodwood.

Google streetview puts me in Milton street, but I cannot see street numbers.  It is either in, next to, or opposite the Goodwood Rugby Club.  Does anybody have further information?

I have been lost there before, because the guy who does bike seat shaving and re-upholstering is right there somewhere...

Remember the next club meeting is this coming Tuesday, at the new address (55 Milton Street, Goodwood).

But that still does not help - I can get that on Google no problem.  But the street view does not show me where exactly the entrance or even the building is.

Click (in street view) on the corner of Alice Street / Milton road and zoom in and zoom in on the parking lot+ toggle side way >< which will give a frontal view of the club....

Hi Charles,

If you come from the Bellvlle side the Club Building is about 400-500m in the direction of Cape Town in Milton Rd just pass the Goodwood Rugby Club,  on your left. Give me acall if you get lost again.

No wonder - Google was a fair number of blocks off.  Your description works perfectly.  Here is the map (click it to work it):

And here is a picture of the entrance you are looking for:

Hi Charles,

Believe me, this is not a photo of the entrance to the Sports Club.

Looks more like a photo of the entrance to Goodwood Prison sports Club.

I will post directions tomorrow from both sides Cape Town to Bellville and Bellville to Cape Town on Milton Rd.

I will be at the entrance gate on Tuesday to wave people in at the gate. Will try to arrange with Warren to have our Cub Banner there.

I was a bit worried that you were so familiar with the Goodwood Prison Sports Club - is there something you forgot to tell us?

Just remember that if you come from the Cape Town side, the club will be on your right hand side and  from the Bellville to CT direction, it will be on your left. The Google map above is a bit misleading as it is indicated to be on the opposite side of the road.
