Hot starting

My Bmw g 650 gs does not want to start after a short or long ride. Only after 20 minutes it will start again. No problem starting if it is cold. I read on the Uk forums  that it is the decompression lever that needs to be changed. Could somebody please help?

I have had a similar issue before. Could be either worn decompression level or valve clearance needs adjusting, specifically the exhaust valve. I would suggest doing them both at the same time. You can reduce your 20 minute wait by squirting some water on the exhaust side of the cylinder head cover.

Do these comments above about trouble with hot starting apply to a 2011 1200 GSA as well Lance (or any one else)?

It irritates me endlessly to stop for fuel or at a store after 10-15 kms of riding just for the bike to not want to start with the electric starter again.

Sorry Erhardt I have zero experience with the 1200s. I'm sure someone else on here might. My suggestion above was for the 450/650 singles.

Thanks Lance. I see that you get an improved decompression lever from Bmw overseas that fixes the hot start problem. Don't know if Bmw Sa has it available here. I will definitely let them do both.
