Our last visit was to the Mispah School in Elim for children with learning disabilities where we were able to give a generous food donation and were priviledged to visit a second time to drop off 2 TV's and a DVD.
There are 75 children in the Mispah hostel of which only 5 have regular family contact. Then there is the Elim home for physically disabled children where nurses look after about 55 children. Pictures can be found under Trip reports : Doelwit bereik.
When I heard that the children (both at Mispah and Elim Home) won't be having a Christmas party this year due to i) no volunteers to arrange the party and ii) financial difficulty, I felt that I should try and do something about it. We all have such a lot to be grateful for, especially if you visit the Elim Home. Knowing that I have very little time left before children at Mispah are placed out over the school holidays, I in any case placed my story on the forum. Over the last two days, I've received donations to the value of R900. A BIG thank you to those who've given so unselfishly.
I am looking at buying each child a gift of not more than R20 - R25. I managed to secure a 25% discount on all toys purchased at the Factory Toy Shop. Most of the money will be used to buy the toys and if possible, I'd like to buy the nurses who looks after the children something small, even if it's just a chocolate. I've met all of them personally and they all have a passion for working and caring for these children.
I informed the Elim Home and Mispah that the bikers are bringing Santa to them on the 24th of November. They were overwhelmed.
If you would like to contribute, please feel free to contact me. You can either make a financial donation (I will do the buying based on the list of ages I have) or let me have a gift(s) for the party. I'd like to do the shopping this coming Sunday as all gifts are still to be wrapped and tagged.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours in the hearth of needy communities,
Tanya
