This photo by Obie Oberholzer was taken at an abandoned farm near Moedverloor and reminds us of how tough life can be trying to earn a living in sunny SA. Our forefathers fought through several wars both locally and abroad to ensure their offspring would have a better life. Some of the passes we might consider 'mundane' hold treasure chests full of historical drama - like Botha's Pass on the R34 which straddles the border between the Free State and KZN. We filmed this pass from a motorcycle and it's one of only three passes on the website in this format. It certainly lends a different perspective and allows those who drive normal vehicles an opportunity to experience a fairly fast dash down the escarpment on a big bike.

We also take a look at a battle at the summit of this pass in 1900, which was to change the face of history in South Africa. You can tap in to our news page here: http://bit.ly/2ikAd5K and take the link to Botha's Pass from there. We also review the new GoPro 6 Black and take a closer look at the top 10 altitude gaining passes in South Africa. It's freely accessible until Sunday evening. Enjoy!
