Handle bar risers slipping

Hi

Please give me your advice on this problem I encountered.

I bought a set of handlebar risers for my 2006 r1200gs.  They installed without a problem but after going for a ride on a dirt road I found that the handle bars slipped.  Especially when I put some weight on them.  I tried to tighten the bolts but this did not work.

Then I removed the bolts and replaced them with slightly shorter ones.  Thinking that the other bolts are bottoming out. Still the same problem.

I removed the risers again.  When I hold the two caps around my handle bar the one set moves freely despite being flush on the upper cap the other one has friction.

The shop has offered to refund me but before I do that I wanted to find out if someone might have some advice or solution for me.

Also if the thread in the upper fork clamp has been damaged can it be re cut?

Thank you

Christoff

From the look of the photo, these are those generic raisers sold by the likes of TracMac or Startline.

You unfortunately need to get yourself proper raisers designed and made especially for your specific bike.

Get hold of Chris at the Flying Brick and I'm sure he will be able to assist you in this regard as he is a vendor for brands like Motoradical for example.

Thank you.

Ill do that.

I had a closer look at the two half rounds and their size does not match (about 1mm difference in thickness).  So the one clamped and the other one didn't.

I have returned them and will get a set from flying brick.  Fortunately the thread on the clamps were not damaged.

Regards

Christoff.
