My 2004 GSA runs faultlessly. Suddenly, the next time I toggle the brights.... no spot lights. Both stopped working at once. Anyone on the forum got an idea what went wrong. The owner's book does not show a fuse for the spotlights, just the main beam. I hard wired both to the battery and the work, so it's not a globe failure. Got to be somewhare in the lume or the switch. What to do. Must be someone who has seen this before and overcome it. any ideas? Andyman

andy, there must be a relay in the system for the spots as they won't run straight off the switch.i have a suspicion that you have a relay failure as it relies on a coil to pull in the relay.will help you when it suits you just give me a shout

Thanks. So I need to find out which relay it is. Is that a process of elimnination? Andyman Yup that's me. Standing up in the traffic on the 1150GSA.

Thanks Halfjob! all working fine now. I took my bike round to Halfjobs, halfjoint and we took off the tank and seat tracing the lume back from the lights themselves. Above the airfilter is the relay with in-line fuse revealing that these are aftermarket fitted lights! Wonder who fitted them in such an amateur way? Opening up the relay,we saw the contacts burned to moer n gone. Replaced 30 Amp relay for R20.00. All the lights behave as per manual. Another sad fact became obvious. Whoever re-mounted the spots from the underslung position (as seen on most BMW fitted lights) to above the bracket did not turn the front face of the lights around at the same time. Now the drain holes are on top so it collects water n dust instead of draining and just 'breathing'. A quick dismantle and clean-up restored the lights to what they should have been in the first place. with holes down. End of story. Andyman Yup that's me. Standing up in the traffic on the 1150GSA.

Hi guys; read your comments about the spots being up-side. has seen this in photographs as well (front page of BMW Freedom mag.) but don't know how to. Can someone please explain how this is done, as there is only a mounting bracket on the bottom of the crashbar pipe on the GSA. If you could post a close-up photo on this site it will be super. Thanks, BikerBen.

Hi Bikerben, I've seen two arrangements: both while visitng my friends at Hamman Motorrad. They can also explain the set-ups. one was a guy (who makes up ali panniers for a 1200GS) who cut the brackets off underneath and re-mounted them on top of the pipe. The other was a neater gooseneck bracket laser cut in Stikland. The simply came orund the back of the pipe to above and he mounted the lights there. But the wiring harness looked stretched in both cases. John Hamman snr was with me when this guy was displaying his handiwork. My advice is get your local tool shop to make up a bracket set if youreally want them above. Sorry but mine is an 1150GSA, not the 1200. So you see the bracket is defferent. Hope this helps 1150GSA spots mounted top-side of bracket1150GSA spots mounted top-side of bracket Andyman Yup that's me. Standing up in the traffic on the 1150GSA.

Many thanks Andyman. I think the gooseneck idea is best and I have also thought of this myself. Cannot be that difficult to manufacture; I'll check the wiring first. Most guys advise me to turn the spotlights upwards as they tend to break in the event of an off-road fall (which surely will catch up with you some time). The spots apparently cost in the region of R1600 each ... So, I'll rather go for the gooseneck adaptation. Thanks again.

Saw Bester's 1200GSA at Anysberg - he moved his spots inwards/closer to the frame by inserting a longer bolt thru the fitting that holds the lights. Looks neater and will give more protection.

A bracket is available manufactured by Sord - BMW dealers in George stock it, which place the spot on top of the bar. Didn't like it though. Got the idee of moving spots to the inside from Arno. Had to "side stand issues" since and spots still intack.
