Anyone from the club entering the GS trophy? I'm thinking of doing it?

Thinking of doing it with my 1150gsa? Anyone done it before? What can be expected? I'm keen for the challenge

In 2010, myself, Wayne Sheppard, Clayton Laue and James Redelinghuis tried out for it, at an adventure camp in Magaliesberg.  It was a blast - the competition was not just riding skills, but obstacle courses, rope work, GPS navigation, bike maintenance, leadership and a fitness test.  This was over 3 days.  The riding skills test we did on our own bikes, with handicaps depending on your bike model (e.g. GSAs got an advantage, and 800s a penalty).

The trip report is here.

It is worth doing - even for the experience.  The one-day qualifier looks like it will be more specific to bike skills, like a foot-up trial on adventure bikes.  There will be some standard techniques tested, like cones, tight turns, possibly a see-saw, a bunny-hop, the 'garage', the 'gate', slow riding, an elephant turn, emergency braking with a sliding turn,  pick-up and put-down of something like a glass of water, etc.

I would do it again this year since it is so much more affordable than last time, but I am not yet allowed to ride.
