I have finally outgrown my XR125L and with a tight budget I'm looking at getting a second hand G450X 2009. Are there any problem areas I should check. I have searched many sites but  I have found little information. From what I can find most people either love the bike or hate it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I know little about these bikes.

Thanks

The bike is no longer supported, and I know that Wayne Sheppard failed to finish several races because the bike was just not reliable.  I'm not sure what exactly you are looking for, but unless you are big (90kg+) and strong the bike is hard work to handle.  Are you sure a Yammie 250F or KTM 300 is not more appropriate?

I am not a big person I am 75kg but I have no problem riding a XR650l. I am just looking for a bike capable of doing 120km/h for an extended period of time but can still be easy enough to ride off-road. The biggest problem is a very limited budget +- R25k. The G450X seemed to be the best fit but I will heed you warning there have been lots of starting problems reported on many other forums.

If you are, the 450 is probably not at all suitable, as it is only for off-road (i.e. not licensed for onroad).  I believe the Honda Tornado or similar is good for what you want.  There are suitable bikes in all the brands except BMW and KTM.
