The forks don't always need to be rechromed. This is very expensive and the forks have to be completely dissassembled so you will be paying big dollar on labour as well.

Often what one can look for is if the fork stanchions have been pitted by a foreign object then it leaves a raised rim or edge. Get someone with the knowhow and the right water paper and sand it off. The seals dont mind if there is an indentation in the stanchion, but they perrish very quickly when there is a raised surface as it will score the seal and leak in any position it sits at, while only if you go over a bump in the road it wil loose a fraction of a fraction (negligible amount) of oil with just the indentation remaining.

Let us know how you come along! And do yourself a favour and make up some neoprene socks with velcro to protect the stanchions in future!

Fantastic! There is usually a simple and cost effective fix for most things on these bikes, so Im glad I could help! Now do yourself a favour and fit some Neoprene socks.

Cheers.

Give Dave Mills a call on 021 5526655, he knows the older stuf well and can help with chroming as well if needed.
