Floppy footpeg syndrome on 1200 GS LC

Just done a tour of the garden route and Knysna, returning via Route 62. Noticed that the LHS pillion footpeg has lost some of its spring, such that it no longer fully returns to the home position, and it flops around a bit when retracted.

Closer inspection reveals no external spring (like the rider footpegs have) so I'm assuming the spring is inside the footpeg or the pivot?

Anyone else experienced this problem and any suggestions for a fix?

As my bike is still under warranty, I should take it to Donford, but it seems a trivial thing that I could perhaps sort out myself?

I might even fit aftermarket pillion footpegs. Any suggestions on what to fit?

So many mountains, so little time.

The "spring" is a thick o-ring that eventually perishes.  Easy enough to replace, or get Donford to fix at the next service.  In the meanwhile, get yourself some of that velco tape (double-sided velcro).  Use it to secure the footpeg in the upright position so it doesn't flop and annoy.  The up side of this is if you need a bit of velcro to secure something you have it right there.

Shane has fixed the floppy foot peg, but it looks like I need to retrain my wife to mount the bike in a different way, to prevent the same thing from happening again. Either that or fit other (aftermarket) foot pegs.

It's not easy for a pillion mounting these machines with all the boxes fitted, unless you're a Yoga champion!

Thanks Shane. Will try plan A first and if that doesn't work I'll move to plan B.
