Has anyone got a spare rear rim collecting dust, or know where I can get this fixed ??? No idea when or how it happened.

Tinus,

That hardly rates as a smiley (as such little dinks in the rim are affectionately known) - it's more like a little grin - lol!

Usually caused by bottoming out the suspension over a road obstacle.....

You have two options:

Have it repaired - Nicklaus Lutzeler can be contacted on 0726050727

or if you're adamant about another wheel - Brad James 0741155555 for used BMW Parts

Hope you get sorted out quickly.

If your tyre was tubless you might have cause for concern.  But since you have a tube, and the ding is hardly noticable, just ignore it.  Wait until you really break the rim before you spend money fixing or replacing it.

If you buy another rim, you will probably end up storing it in the garage to save it, and riding the "broken" one until it is totally broken - seeing as it works fine for now.

Thanks for the advice and contact details. The photo does not do it justice, it is bent up to the first step of the rim before you get to the middle part that hold the spokes.

I ran it on center stand last night, and the wheel seems a bit oval

Nicklaus has moved to JHB I believe.

Speak to Shane at Donford in CT he will give you the number of another person.

Hi Tinus

If you have insurance and are willing to pay the excess, then I will advice that you claim for the rim. The insurance companies pay out for the stronger aftermarket rims like Excel or SM Pro.

The 800's have a reputation for "soft" rims, but it is usually the front wheel that takes the knocks and get smileys easily.

Tinus - we can quote you on both the SM Pro rim, as well as the Excel rim, just ask if you need help, and we can get it laced up for you using your existing hub IF you do decide to replace it entirely.

You should then budget for new spokes, a few re-lacers will not re-lace wheel using existing spokes IF they cannot easily loosen them, etc.
