I've got an '81 R65 and I make mostly short trips. I have to drive very long to charge it again completely (I don't have a garage, so I have to remove the battery to charge it overnight, which is a major pain).
BMW Atlantic checked out the alternator etc. and said it was fine.
Is it worth to buy and install something like this, an aftermarket charging system?

Has anybody out there ever bought one and do they work?
I will appreciate any response.
Don't know the product you refer to but give Optimate a go, I and many others have experienced excellent results and repore with the manafacturer.
I concur with Cheesy. Give Optimate a go, its a reliable product with good local back-up. Their MD is a forum member.
His problem is no garage so charging is a hassle, hence his wish to solve the on - bike charging issue!!
Perhaps a re- read of his problem.
cjl.. I did look at the link, it sounds very good, expensive though,... before spending, chat to: your dealer's mech, Altus @ GS W-Shop, and I'll call Cheesy and ask him to re- read.... he remembers bikes from the days of wooden ones.
I had an 82 ST that slept outside and travelled short distances and I spent many winter mornings pushing or jump starting it. I ran about a 25m extension to my Optimate that was positioned under the bike, and off the ground, and then was coverd by a vented ice cream container. No more pushing after that. Admittedly it would not get past a Health and safety officer!
Thanks, Neil and thanks Cheesy. I've now read about Altus and his workshop in various posts so I'll give him a try.
It's such a nice bike (my first); it's awful to just see it standing there. (If i had a garage, it wouldn't be a problem!)
Thanks Abu for the reply. I live in a block of flats so it's a bit risky to have electrical leads and appliances lying around in the parking area.
Optimate is a battery charger, if I understand correctly.
But Enduralast is a completely new alternator kit that puts out (they claim) 80% more power. Unfortunately it is very expensive, $500.
