Hi Marcus, the training is still going ahead. We will post the names of the participants in a couple of days. I am sure she has put you on the list.

Hi Neels

I've also sent a query to Jaime about the training course, but have yet to receive a response. Is the email address given above correct? I would like to know whether there is still space left for the level 1 course and whether I have to belong to the club to attend the training course. Also, is it a good idea for me to attend one of these courses when I am very new to motorbiking (I have attended one of the Bikersafe Motorcycle Academy beginner motorbike workshops and have driven only about 350km on my newly-acquired 650 GS on tar only)?

Thank you,

Zanie

Training is always a good idea Zanie, especially when you are a beginner.  The level 1 offroad training will give you some valuable basics that can be applied both on- and off-road.

That said, please do not confuse club training days with the certified courses presented by places like Country Trax.  Official courses are presented by qualified, trained professionals, following official curricula and tried and tested training techniques.  The club training days should be seen more as supervised practice sessions (not to say that the presenters are not qualified to teach - they are and there is instruction and very good guidance, but the club training days are not a substitute for official, certified courses).

Once you have ridden a bit more (consider coming on some of the club "beginners offroad rides"), book yourself in to the Country Trax "Intro to Offroad" course (it's a one-day experience that will transform your riding).

I will definitely go on the Country Trax intro course, but since they aren't holding any more courses this year I thought I'd start with this course. The mantra seems to be "you can never go on too many courses" and, given the cost of mistakes, it seems sensible.

Pete, Neels, Arno and John for yet another great day's training.

Great venue - OK, stunning venue, great weather and absolutely fantastic paths and tracks amongst the vineyards. Wonderful bunch of people and some interesting tales afterwards. All in all a recipe for a first class day on the bike.

Riding the "ditch" at the end was so much fun that I just had to do it over and over until I collapsed from exhaustion Tongue out.

Thanks for a wondeful day of learning out in the sun. I also found it useful, as a new biker, to get random tips on what to look out for with respect to bike maintenance, etc, from those who could spot the noob (not too difficult). I'll definitely need to do a refresher once I've done some more mileage.
