Question: whilst on the Nelson's Creek taining course on Saturday, another Dakar owner pointed out to me that ALL his telltale/warning lights illuminated upon his turning the ignition key to the ON position, whereas on my older 2001 Dakar, only the oil pressure and coolant temp lights come on, and they then extinguish upon starting the bike. Obviously my neutral light comes on, and is also extinguished upon engaging gear. Were later Dakar's upgarded to have this feature? The other Dakar was just 1 year newer (2002), but he did mention that he had goten a bike with the 'upgraded wiring system'? thanks

I have a 2007 Dakar. Only the ABS and Oil lights illuminate. ABS goes off after a second or two and the oil light goes off when I fire up the engine. For the rest, they indicate the condition of the system ie indicators, brights, neutral only if they're on. I don't recall ever seeing my temperature light on, though my fuel light regularly shows when I'm on reserve :-) ''The world needs dreamers that DO!''

Just like many modern cars, on the 2002 Dakar I looked at, ALL the lights came on for a few seconds, showing that all lights were working, then auto-extinguished, leaving only 'critical' lights on... Will post a pic of it when I next see the owner of that bike - I sure am curious about this one! Thanks http://www.themanorcottage.co.za

Mine show only 3 lights initially (neutral, oil pressure and coolant temp), then very quickly (within 5 seconds)settles down to 2 lights (neutral and oil pressure). Seems like your bike shows FUEL (which I have) and ABS (which I do not have) on first illumination. I know my fuel light works, so unsure why it does not show on first illumination?Prestart lightsPrestart lights Interesting...! http://www.themanorcottage.co.za

Owners of the older Dakars and GS 650's - keen to hear your 'take' on the startup lights pre turning the engine over, to see which lights come on... Thanks! http://www.themanorcottage.co.za
