DAD'S N SON's OVERNIGHT TRIPS How about an overnight trip to Bainskloof -with a son or daughter as pillion. We leave on the N2, Viljoens Hoop road to Kleinmond, then Caledon, SE on gravel into the Hemel en Aarde valley, over the N2 North to Greyton on gravel and West to Worcester on gravel, then tar to Steenbok park for an braai and overnight in a log cabin (gas geyser, fridge, flush toilets and shower). Then a lazy breakfast at the Calabash before heading home over the Bainskloof pass. You can only come if you have a kid on pillion who will enjoy such a trip. My 11yr old nephew's dad died in an armed robbery and I'd like to expose the kid to some interesting stuff outside of his mom n little sisters. Show him a different world to the city that killed his father. Any takers. Saturday - ±237km's & Sunday ±130km's. If tar is your choice then your group meet us there via your own route.

Hi Flipper, how about using one of your other bikes for this ride. Surely the reason behind the ride is more important than the "badge" on the bike.

Sound a great idea I assume its coming Saturday/Sunday? Only problem is Grey College and Paul Roos has big interschool on Saturday in Stellenbosch. Being an Old Grey I have no option but to temper my Paul Roos boy's enthusiasm. He doen't speak to me for a week before this interschools. I regularly take my kids as pillions on my RT. They just love the communication without having to speak too much. And of course being so close to nature.. Don't waste space - live on the edge

Back from the Dad's n lads ride. We are all back safely- Actually only myself with a young pillion and Annie in her own (short of 'small' helmuts) went on the ride. I got a few calls and it was evident that off-road meant several people did not come along as well as the short notice. LESSON I LEARNED ABOUT THIS TYPE OF RIDE: NEXT TIME IT WILL BE 1 - A TAR RIDE ONLY, to not exclude any other riders, also a new-to biking pillion does not need to meet gravel 1st time out. 2 - MUCH SHORTER - for a young pillion, 09H00 to 17h00 gets too long. 3 - PLAN MORE IN ADVANCE- and get more participants. This has tremendous potential for becoming a club type ride and I'll gladly help the committee member delegated to this make it happen. It's a wonderfull way of getting mom's n dads to accept biking can be 'safe' if approached correctly. Andyman Yup that's me. Standing up in the traffic on the 1150GSA.

Andy, thanks for the feedback. I think the distance you did is perfect - on tar the the time will come down drastically. Possibly two or three stops - kids could get uncomfortable being seated too long. One thought - possibly a small intro lesson before you get started, to make sure all pillions know what to do. What about people that want to bring their kids along in a car - so the kids can see others kids on bikes and possibly experience a short ride in the yard. It mught be a good idea for RedAdventure, to get his daughter to be comfortable around bikes.

Padlanks, Good suggestions. We nearly did invite orest of the kids family along to meet us there. We did give a short intro and you are right this is important, I think tar is better trip. For pillion youngsters to feel safe and cater for everyone. I definitely think there is potential in this trip. Will schedule something for later in warmer Spring. Andyman Yup that's me.
