Thank you to all who participated I have been commuting by bike for the last 14years, for the last 12 years it has been daily rain or shine. Sometimes I am less cautious and on really hot days I don’t wear over-pant but for the most part I wear 100% ATGATT and for the last year I have been wearing a bright green bib. I started this thread because I noticed that more and more either I’m getting slower “hopefully more cautious” or everyone else is getting faster; I find that I’m usually moving over to let faster riders through and it seems to me that over the past 6 months I have experienced more “heart-stoppers” than over the past 14 years. Since starting this thread I have been carefully observing what speeds I do while commuting and at the same time observing other motorcyclist and scooter riders. My speeds Slow moving traffic, I travel between 40 to 50 km/h Slightly faster moving, around 60 to 80km/h Open 5-10km over the speed limit A large percentage of participants to this survey most likely are more aware of the dangers and therefore this results do not reflect all commuters, however there are some very interesting results. What this does not tell us anything about is the large percentage of new entrants and Scooter riders who more often than not ride too fast (in my opinion) and hardly ever wear ATGATT. ATGATT; 51% wear 100%; 6% - 90% “jackets, gloves but no protective pants” 8% wear no motorcycle specific clothing Heart-Stoppers; 31% - daily, 22% - weekly, 39% monthly, 8% - never Speed; 32% fast (> 60 or 10 to 15km faster than traffic) 48% Average (40 to 60), 8% slow (below 50), 12% depends on traffic density. Racing: 67% =no Other findings; most riders are unaware of how fast they are traveling, based on my commuting speed and the 48% who claim they ride at an average speed. Of the self confessed faster riders only 8% were interested in racing.

Hi Max Interesting results. So it seems some people are getting their racing in on the road and not the track where it should be... Also, as you say, this group is not average ito ATGATT and cautiousness. Most of us are safety conscious - if not for our own skin then at least to avoid the cost of repairs to our expensive and pretty bikes ;-)
