Chris broke his leg in the Baviaans on the long weekend - lost it on the descent at one of the concrete culverts and flipped / spun the bike.

Broken tibia - was wearing GS boots. Bike is fine :-)

We put him in a passing 4x4 and evacuated him to Humansdorp and then from there to PE - they operated to reposition everything and put leg in plaster. He flew home and is in pain but in good spirits.

Speedy recovery Chris. We went through Baviaans for the first time a few days before and I can see how easily things can unravel on some of those sections ... fortunately made it ok without too much damage to the bikes.

Thanks for all the well wishes  icon_thumleft

Back in CT, lower leg in plaster, not a scratch anywhere else, my leg got broken inside of my BMW GS boots, was admittedly pushing hard for an hour or two, staying closish on John Woods (Wildwoods 690) tail, and then we proceeded OFF the final mountain downhill towards the Patensie-side gate.

(I had on all safety gear, back brace saved my back, neck brace was on, etc)

Lost the 450's front wheel at quite some speed, and fell hard into those angled concrete culverts; I suspect it was that that broke my leg, bike otherwise in v. Good condition , and riding mates bought it down off the mountain . Bike came to a rest facing UPhill, I stood up to pick bike up after 'self-assesment', but leg gave way immediately. Mates came along and got me off the mountain in a passing 4x4.

Learning lesson? I was enjoying the hour or two of fast trail, but ran out of talent/was too fast for my ability down that hill.

Lesson learned, the hard way!

Yes, BMW boots, BMW jacket, BMW pants, Leatt braca and Riche gloves.

I DO feel that the in-built back protector PROPERLY saved me from further injury, it did its job beautifully!

Thanks, Chris

Speedy recovery Chris.

You start the game with a full pot o’ luck and an empty pot o’ experience. The object is to fill the pot of experience before you empty the pot of luck.

Hey Chris

Hope you have a speedy recovery - so it's safe to say if you're wearing GS boots then nothing will happen to the bike.

Regards

Well done Chris, Glald you are back home in one piece.

Eish, luckily you have a star team back in the shop to look after business.

Please don't be a bane to poor Reinette, just chill, this is a message from yourt body to slow down a bit.

Speedy regovery Chris.

We were in Baviaans during the long weekend, but in 4x4. Saw many bikes, were quite jealous.

Work hard; play hard; never play when you work!

Hope you are up and riding soon
