Good day

Does anybody have any recent experiences to share in terms of where to park your motorcycle at the airport over the weekend.  Is there allocated parking, fees, etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Park in the P2 Multi-Story parkade.

See the map here: http://capetown-internationalairport.co.za/airport/airport-parking.php

At the bottom, use the Executive parking entrance towards the right.  There is Motorcycle parking down there.  No charge - but I've never managed to work out the 'correct' way to exit.

I usually follow another car out - or wind down and out through the pedestrian exit.

Andy Connel has a post or two on his experiences of parking at the airport - I think he sometimes parks right on the top level of P2.

Hi Kevin

Thanks for this.  Saw Andy's post, but just wanted to make sure it was still current.

Theo,
Its very current.
I parked there last week.
I exit at the bollards at the escape road and out onto the old drop n go lane
I notice employees use the bollards closest to the entry of the garage.
I use the others because of the natural flow.
The longest I've stayed there is one month, the shortest, 20 minutes.
I use a cable lock to keep my helmet and jacket on the bike.

I leave jump lead sin my top box if away long.
I also give the parking company jump leads every six months or so, just as my thank you and to pay it forward.

*UPDATE*

I parked op P2 level 4 today, but on leaving, both areas with Bollards were barricaded with hardwood.

So I then tried to tandem out with a car.. he was a bit slow so I shot ahead and unfortunately the booms closed down in front of him again! I feel absolutely terrible... I think next time I'll just bite the bullet and pay my dues.

Theo

never use P2 normal

use the VIP parking.

they blocked bikes because people park by the elevator on the tiles stands crack the tiles.

park in the VIP parking, boom opens automatically and there are designated bike bays

i just parked there now.

you can exit almost where you entered.

Hi Andy

Thanks for this!  Will definitely use those demarcated bays in future then.

Kind regards

And as you enter, you'll see a pedestrian way on your immediate right, unblocked, taking you back to the old drop n go ride thru lane.
The boom has been cut shorter at the end of the lane to allow bikes to pass thru easily.

they can take 48 bikes and most are.....

BMW so by the way.

I concur with Andy on this, I have used the same entrance, bike parking bays and exit route exactly as Andy describes it; never had any problems with that yet over the past 7 to 8 years of parking there, and its really quick and convenient.

I got on my bike as usual this am after I landed and rode out and the end, no blockages at all, both ends of VIP parking clear, no obstructions, bikes welcome,

Again, mostly bMW GS bikes  keeping mine company.
