The greatest cost with any trip is the back up vehicle. It's not just fuel, it's wear and tear, it’s more frequent services etc, not to mention possible damage which would either be covered by the owner of the vehicle or the person who arranged the trip. AA rates are something like R5.21 per km, our back up vehicles obviously do it for a lot less, sometimes at cost to the owner.

Geoff and I have been looking at trying to cut the cost of this weekend for a few days now as I really want to show folks this amazing area, even to the point where I suggested we go without a back up vehicle. Geoff correctly said that is not an option.

So I’ve gone back to the farmer, I’ve broken his legs and reminded him how much his poort has cost me in repairs to my truck, and I got even better pricing on some items.

And as I am still involved in the 4x4 world, I approached one of the main sponsors of my truck for help.

So I am very pleased to announce that the back-up vehicles fuel will be sponsored by Speedy Tyres and Exhaust in Paarl for this trip. A massive thank you to Hannes Burger.

So three days of riding through some of the most awesome adventure riding terrain around, including Seweweekspoort, Gamkaspoort Dam, Makadas Ghost Railway and a visit to the historic battle ground of “Die Slag Van Driefintein”, will now cost R690 per person which includes camping accommodation for two nights, two suppers, two breakfast and a back up vehicle and club trailer following us all three days.

We have a quite a few bikes on the list already and can only take 15. Email Warren at warren@sdbsa.co.za to secure your place.
