Brake (ABS) warning light on all the time??

Recently my ABS red light has come on and will not go off. Does these mean my ABS init is gone or is there a loose wire/sensor possible.????

My speedometer is also a little temperamental and works and then stops periodically.

Does anybody have any advice on this or has this happened to anyone else.

The bike is a 2007/8 1200 GSA with on 20000km on the clock

Hi Steve

The ABS only initializes when a number of conditions are satisfied during startup.  In a nutshell, the whole braking system needs to be 100%.  So, if any of the brake light switches (on the back-brake lever, the front-brake lever) are not working or are permanently on (due to bad settings, a fault, or because you are holding the brakes when turning on the bike), ABS won't initialize.

Also, if any of the wheel rotation sensors (and on newer bikes this sensor is also the speedo sensor!) are broken, badly adjusted, or have a damaged wire, the ABS cannot work.  Your best bet is to take it to the dealer to have the computer tell you what the fault is.

Thx Charles

I think you might be spot on in regrads sensors as the speedo and ABS light are the problem.

Flightstick

I had this on my 07 GSA and it turned out to be a front wheel sensor. easy fix.

With the speedo showing signs of ''menopausal behaviour'' is a sure ign its the sensor.

Ha I wish it was that easy my speedo gets to ......never mind so don't think it that . I have traced all the wiring and all the plugs and connections are intact as far as I can see maybe time to get it down to the dealer for a diagnostic check . What i did notice after putting in new brake pads the abs light flashed but went solid once I started moving . It was on already before I changed pads

sounds like a Hall sensor, i.e. one of the pick-ups at the wheel that counts the rpm's of the wheels, that feeds info to the ABS system and speedo ...

bike is booked in with Alf in CT R2200 for the repair. Apparently mine is not servo assisted....Its apparently a common problem with 06/07 model...
