Following on the success of our recent Road Tour to the Eastern Cape Drakensberg and the Transkei and subsequent requests for another Tour later in the year...........read on!
If you are a "Roadie" or an "Off Road" rider looking for an opportunity to take your partner on a fantastic "Road" ride, or even someone new to the riding scene, then this tour is for you.
Come and join a fantastic group of like minded Motorcycle enthusiasts with the BMW Motorrad Club Cape as we visit the Northern Cape, Orange Free State, KwaZulu Natal Drakensberg and the Eastern Cape.
To make this Tour even more special we will have 3 "rest" days along the way. This will allow ample time for you and your partner to relax and or explore the surrounding areas where we are staying.
For those needing to take time off work you will only need 7 days leave for this 11 day adventure.
Dates : 10th to 20th September 2016
After enjoying our first breakfast with the group we head out on the N7 through the "Swartland" and into the "Sandveld" as we head for Vanrhynsdorp. Here we swing right and head for our first nights accommodation in Calvinia.
Depending on what time we arrive you can visit the Museum which is situated in the old Synagogue or just relax for the afternoon. Don't forget to look out for the big red Post Box as you enter the Town, it was once a "water tower"!
Here we are booked DB&B
Having enjoyed a restful night we leave Calvinia heading for Carnarvon then Prieska and on to Douglas and our accommodation on the banks of the Vaal River.
Douglas has it's own Wine Cellar so if we are early enough you could squeeze in a Wine tasting, don't worry our accommodation is not far from here.
If all goes according to plan I am trying to arrange a "sundowner" cruise for us on the Vaal river.
Here we are booked DB&B
Any guesses on our destination today, it is in the OFS? Here are some clues : Our route is as follows, Kimberly, Bloemfontein, Ladybrand, you got it yet? Ficksburg, yes/no?, Fouriesburg, OK I am sure you have it now............and on to Clarens where we spend 2 nights.
Tonight we are booked B&B
There are so many things to do here especially, I believe, for the ladies.
For the Guys there is the Clarens Brewery which should keep you busy for some time.
For the ladies there is just so much to do........Start walking around the Village square which is about the size of a rugby field. You may not even make it all the way around it.
Don't forget to spoil yourselves to a wonderful massage.
Tonights booking is B&B
With the ladies not wanting to leave the lovely little village/town we are forced to leave Clarens and head via the Golden Gate National Park to Harrismith then down the N3 into KwaZulu Natal and on to Bergville/Winterton and the Champagne Castle area in the Drakensberg Mountains. Here we spend another 2 nights.
Here we are booked DB&B both nights
There are so many things to keep you busy for a good few days in this area but if you really want to spoil yourself take the Helicopter flip it is breathtaking.
Today we "turn and burn" as we start our homeward journey, don't stress though as we still have lots to see and a long way to ride.
After a week of "Hotel" type food it is time for us to go in search of some serious home made "boere" kos.
Our search takes us via Howick to Underberg (no we are not doing Sani Pass!!) then to Kokstad and on to Matatiele where we will enjoy real old fashioned hospitality and food.
Here we are booked DB&B
What would this tour be without a few nights spent at the sea?
We leave Matatiele and experience some lovely "twisties" on our way to Maclear then to Ugie and down the the fantastic "Langeni" Pass before we flatten out and start heading for Morgan Bay/Cintsa Area in the Eastern Cape. Here we spend two nights with the sound of the waves in our ears and the sea air in our noses.
Tonights booking is DB&B
The plan for today is to do nothing! However those that want to will find things of interest to do including having a massage to prepare for the final leg of our journey.
Tonights booking is DB&B
Day 10)
With a heavy heart we will leave our accommodation and hit the N2 to East London where we turn off and ride along the "coast" road via Port Alfred to Port Elizabeth and on to our final nights accommodation in Tsitsikamma. Here we will enjoy our final night together and swop stories about the fantastic trip we have nearly completed.
Here we are booked DB&B
Our final day of the Tour and after a hearty breakfast we all ride together to Buffeljagsrivier where we say our final good byes having traveled about 3700kms together across this beautiful Country of ours.
Bookings include all our accommodation, 10 breakfasts and 8 dinners.
Cost : R8600.00 per person sharing, add approximately 30% if you require your own room.
Space is limited at this special price. Book early to ensure your place.
To book please mail me at russell@aroma.co.za giving me your and your partners name or make a posting on the Forum with the same info and your e mail address.

Hi Geoff,

Really considering doing this one. Sounds nice! My father-in-law Gert Olivier might also join.
How many people are you planning to take? When is the cutt-off date for payments?

Hi to all doing this tour. Really sorry that Eileen and I are unable to join you. I am sure that you will all have a great tour. I was looking forward to the CTN, Calvinia, Carnarvon, Prieska, Douglas, Clarens leg of the tour - new addition to previous "Roadies" tours.
Ride safe. Enjoy. Look forward to the trip report and some photos.

Tick-tock tick-tock...
Be so kind and give me the good news of a possible "roadies" trip later this year Uncle Geoff?

Ons is lus vir ry...
Ha, ha...........
On the Menu is a "Roadies" Tour to Lesotho now that the Chinese have built so many fantastic new Tar roads there.
Lesotho has some of the (in my opinion) best Tar Mountain Passes in the world.
A visit and overnight at Sani Pass Top are also on the Agenda as well as visits to Katse dam, Mohale dam, Semongkong if I can convince the "roadies" to ride a short distance of dirt, and a visit to another Lodge that will involve leaving the bikes at the local Police station and driving 16kms in a "Taxi" to get there.
But more about that when the official invite goes out.
