Greetings From Luanda! Have read with interest posts for and against the R1200RT. Having done 60,000 Kilometres on my 2006RT since new the past 20 Months (bearing in mind that I am only resident for 4 Months of the Year in South Africa)and have been in the saddle for 40+ Years and have owned and ridden various Marquees and Models in this time feel "qualified" to ellucidate as follow: The RT (My third BMW)is possibly the best handling Tourer available today with unsurpassed fuel consumption and reliability and just feel that those who "knock" it should reserve negative comments until they have experienced it over a period of time. Test Rides will never do any motorcycle/model justice. Also when Test Riding Ride the Bike for the pleasure of riding it, not to find fault. The RT is as at home in City Traffic, Lane splitting etc. as it is on the Open Roads and twisty passes which we are blessed with in the Western Cape. I ride my RT hard and my Tyres testify to it. Not for me the Flat Centre Strip! Faldie at Tracmac in Plumstead will testify to the outer edge wear on my Bridgestone Batlax 054's when I replace Worn Ones it has ellicited comments from The Bum In The Air Cafe Racer Fraternity if it is as a result of Track Day's!!! I have absolute confidence/faith in my RT which is like an extension of myself (for those of you who dont understand it has a soul)!!! and when the mood takes me have "cranked" it at over 200 into and out of the sweeps and bends on the Montague side of Op Die Tradouw and on the exit before the Karoo Saloon towards Barrydale with not a twitch from the rear!!! For the non believers in the cornering abilities of the RT an Open Invitation to join Bad Girl Alison and I around Franshoek Pass/The Slanghoek Sweeps and myself sans Pillion around my stomping ground Huisrivier Pass with it's 2 Negative cambered corners and then of course Ou Kaapse Weg (outside of Peak Traffic Hours)!!!As you wallow and drop back please observe the outer sole wear on my boots!!! Need I say more about the RT's Handling???!!! For the record the invitation does not include Helshoogte which is the sole domain of Cheesy our 78 year old GS Forum grandfather!!! I have not experienced any undue vibrations at any speed and this is possibly due to correct tyres/correct inflation but mostly the Correct ESA Setting. It is a stunner in the looks department and the panniers superb, gear changing is a "doddle" even with my size 13's!!! The only and only down side of the RT is that it attracts the attention of that camera wielding sub specie known as City Police!!! Thats all for now can go on and on singing the praises but must get on with my work. Enjoy Cape Town Summer Ride Safely and hope to see some of you on my brief return to Cape Town end of December. Cheers Brahman

Brahman, I echo every sentiment. My love affair with the 2006 R 1200RT is far from over. I get a serious twinge of fond nostalgia every time I see one. I'll never see more than a few minutes of your tail,- I ride to see the view, not the road. I have two comments. a pro- I often set my Speedo cruise at 120 on the N2 at 09H00 and From S/West to the Smelly towers (where the trasffic snarls me)and vices versa. I simply sit and steer with my knees and weight all the way, no hint of a vibration on the steer, never mind a slapper! I've even had motorists believe me when I told them I had the autio pilot on. Yup at robots a few have asked. And someone has called KFM to report a motorbike on auto pilot with the rider typing e-mail on his 9300 down the N2. The balance of this bike is all Seven types of fantastic!!! a con- The stylish mirrors are a tad low. I have to move my head a little to watch my rear if I have a pillion. Her thighs appear in the inner realms of the mirror. Otherwise my time on the RT was unsurpassed until I bought the 1150GSA which has to be the next best thoroughbread from the stable. Viva 2006 1200RT viva! Andyman Yup that's me. Standing up in the traffic on the 1150GSA.

I echo that, yesterday a guy on a 1400 ZZR parked next to me and said "I think I should have bought that instead"
