Looking for some knowlege from our 'wise ones'... Have seen a couple of GS 1200's parked on the ground level of the newish multi-story parking garage at CPT International.Very clean, very safe. Keen to know comments, etc - I believe they park for free ;) (since they take up so little space!) Any 'tips'? thanks!

Are there safe parking at the airport? Flyinging out on a Saturday, coming back the Sunday. Thus the vehicle would be there for about 30 hours. Is it safe? Is it affordable? Should I rather just arrange for somebody to drop me off and pick me up later ? How safe is the bike parking for such a long period? Sorry for the many questions, but I am NEW to this - normally I am the one doing the dropping of and picking up bit .. :)

I've parked at the airport over a weekend.. from Friday morning 10h00 and left on a Sunday night at 22h30. I paid about R300. I left a car there not my bike :-) Regards, Corné

Flew to JHB for the day & parked the bike in the new parking in the walkway between to cars (where all the other bikes were parked)& paid R84, I think bikes should pay alot less! The same goes for the parking at Centuary City & other shopping centers, we don't take up a normal vehicle parking & yet are expected to pay the same as a car (was comtemplating squeezing around the boom but there are cameras there).

I travel to Jhb regularly, and leave my bike at the airport (sometimes overnight) and have never had any problems. I usually park in the new parkade, turn in by the pedestrian crossing, through the sliding doors (mind the pedestrians and watch out! the floor is very slippery!), turn right once inside the parkade and park under the stairs. It is out of the way, but still visible to deter people from fiddling with your bike. Same way out again, no charge.

There is a way to park at Century City withiut paying or been seen by the cameras. Ride in through the goods entrance (near entrance 1 I think). The guards even usually raise the boom for you when you enter and exit.
There are so many problems in this world. Luckily there's a wristband available for almost all of them.

I use the Century City exit on the ground floor near Pick-n-Pay - there is a wide pavement between the two booms - up-n-over.

You can try Flight centre - Entrance 8 I believe (or the one upstairs) As for the parking, you should be able to park in the sub structure without issue - I've parked there for several hours twice, no problems.

hehehe thanks Alan and Cloud my personal gripe has also been about having to pay at Century City . I also have my free spot , a bit further away though ,but now have 2 more ;););). Last week I actually had to pay for parking , and it was not so much the money as the time it takes to get your ticket ! Sorry Zebra for hi-jacking your thread , safe flying bro :) ''"4 wheels move the body,'' ''2 wheels move the soul"''

I always park along the fence next to exec parking in the lower covered parking hall. right by the lifts. I go in by the boom, and out at the pedestrian thoroughfare at the exit ramp of the parking garage. I have twice lost battery after long stays and security have jumped the bike with pleasure. I've never been anything but patient, open and obvious and I've never paid or been asked to pay. I have parked there 3 times this year already and 7 times last year. Nowdays there are lots of bikes, Used to be only mine and maybe one other. Please be ultra courteous, kind and patient. We are tolerated for as long as it takes one D%$head to rev, bully, push etc etc. For over ten years I've been leaving my bike at the airport when off on a trip. From 1 day to two weeks. Old days I parked at the exit to the arrivals hall. The cops showed me it is better to park in scope of a surveillance camera. When I parked on the island under the shade netting I rode out between the bollards. I was casual, open and not suroptitious. I just packed my trolley bag, strapped it down, mounted and cruised slowly behind pedestrians through the bollards. security never once gave me any problems. Andyman Yup that's me.
