Beginners Off-Road: Middelplaas- Thank You

Neels Wilken's picture

Eish!! What a great weekend....

Thank you to everybody that joined us on what I think was the first ever Beginners Overnight Trip. I must admit, when we got to the flooded Breede River on Saturday morning, I thought to myself, beginners ride.....hier kom groot moeilikheid! How diffirent it turned out to be. Great weather, fantastic roads, awesome views and an excellent group of people. I really want to compliment you all on your riding discipline. You made my live so easy. You can all be very proud of yourselfs completing the ride without any incedents as there were some tricky and muddy "driffies" with more water in than usual. You guys and girls did great.

Thank you also to Gunther Hencke for doing the ungrateful job of sweeping both days and Peter O' Hanlon for assisting with his ever so usefull tips on Off-road riding techniques. Thank you, again, guys for assisting Erica when she had her off in Robertson.

This is by no means a trip report but just a teaser that will hopefully kick start a team effort report and posting of photos.....so  come on folks, lets show the people what we beginners are made of.

It was my first offroad and best ride ever. Thanks for the oppertunity Neels. It was really a treat! And day 2 was not nearly as bad, or maybe the pointers start taking efect.
You start the game with a full pot o’ luck and an empty pot o’ experience. The object is to fill the pot of experience before you empty the pot of luck.

I would also just like to thank Neels and all the organizers for this trip. I am glad that I was able to join you on the last minute.

This was my first trip (not just for the "gravel travel") and it went surprisingly well. It was a good learning experience for me and I think for everybody else. I had good time and met a lot of nice people. It was surely a weekend to remember.

Thanks to all for a very nice weekend. I also would like to thank the people at Middelplaas for the nice and warm “boere” welcome and for the good food.

Special thanks to Gunther for taking myself and Zack to our guest house with the bakkie and for picking us up the next morning. It was nice to know that we could “safely” enjoy a couple of drinks with the rest of the group without worrying to drive back to our guest house.

Can’t wait for the next trip c",)

Hear Hear!!

Thanks a mil to Neels and Annemarie for organising such a FANTASTIC beginners ride! My confidence has definitely had boost of note!

Special thanks to Pete for assisting, and to Gunther for the great accommodation! The lekke plaas kos was a real treat! Good thing we didn't spend any more time there or I think my suspension may have encountered some difficulty!

It was great to meet so many new people, and to have everyone be 'in the same boat'.

I can't wait for the next ride!!

Goed gereel!
