Those older riders that remember the "old" Cycle City when it was owned/run by John & Brett (Clark) will be saddened to hear that Brett was killed in George yesterday on his way home to Durban from the Buff. No other details available. My sincere condolences to Brett's family and friends.

Returning home from the Buff on Saturday evening Trevor Will lost his life. Trevor was a fine carpenter, artist and companion to Linda and friend to Orrie. Our thoughts are with you during these difficult times, God speed. Ignore opinions, heed facts. Feet on the pegs, always.

Think before you ink.

Trust is the most valuable asset.

I have the rest of my life to get old.

Condolences also to Fiona , Brett's wife . She is apparently taking this very hard. Brett was only 48 and something of a legend in the biking world. He lost both legs crashing into the armco barriers opposite UCT some 25 years ago. He then rode with two prosthesis , going to his first Buff in 1975. One of his best friends, Donald from KTM, used to regale us with Brett's antics. The one time his one leg fell off on Ou Kaapse weg and the labourer standing next to the road refused to give him his leg so that he could stop. His eyes were big with fear and he kept saying Aikona Baas !! Brett then had to ride down the mountain to go and fetch his brother-in -law to come back with him to hold his bike upright while he could put his leg back on. He was very brave and a kind nice person . He started Powerflow exhausts and one of my bikes sported that exhaust , it was lovely sounding. He also sometimes would fall on the off -road so that his leg (s ) would bend at funny angles, giving co-riders a very big fright, to his delight. He was an excellent bike rider and his loss is shared by all who knew him. RIP and condolences to his wife , friends and family. ''"4 wheels move the body,'' ''2 wheels move the soul"''

I remember the leg story very well and was in Cycle City the day it happened. We had many a dice around Hout Bay and Chappies together.................. What a character!

Dave Higgs told me today that Brett's luggage apparently got caught in his tyres , which is also how the previous pastor from the Caoe Town Bikers Church and his wife lost their lives on the way to the Springbok Rally some 8 years ago. Shew that is so terrible . ''"4 wheels move the body,'' ''2 wheels move the soul"''

I was truely saddened to hear of Bretts death this morning. He was one of the nicest people I have ever met. Among his many exploits on two wheels was his trip from Cape Town to the Buffalo Rally in Bloemfontein on a Honda SS50. I was lucky enough to hear the story from Brett himself. I'll miss him. Condolences to his family. "No man is an island, Entire of itself. Each is a piece of the continent, A part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less. As well as if a promontory were. As well as if a manner of thine own Or of thine friend's were. Each man's death diminishes me, For I am involved in mankind. Therefore, send not to know For whom the bell tolls, It tolls for thee."

I met Brett a few months after the accident when he lost his legs. I made his first prostheses. He was a very brave and courageous young man back then. I lost contact with him when I went to stay in Windhoek. I see that he lived a full life and touched many hearts. May God be with his family.

We are Deric and Claire Clark, parents of Brett, who died so tragically on Sunday 22 March. We were so touched to receive a few pages of tributes to our son, and only wish we had the names of some of these good folks. We know Dave Higgs and thank him for coming to the memorial service on 26 March. The letter from Donald (KTM) suggested that the raod was wet, but in truth he was a victim of a freak accident, as we believe a strap from his panier/ruck sack came loose and jambed up his rear wheel. The lady in a car that had been following Brett for some time saw what happened and luckily, being a nurse (Angel?), she attended to him and called for a helicopterto take him to George Medi-Clinic. Sadly, Brett passed away in the helicopter, obviously from multiple injuries. Like so many of you who knew Brett, we will miss his humour and will always admire his amazing strength in adversity. Rest in peace, dear boy.

Hi All, I am Fiona, Brett's wife. I was touched by all the messages that came in for Brett - thank you. What a special man he is. It is a great comfort knowing that he died doing what he loved best - and that he had had a wonderful weekend at the Buff. I hope that, wherever he is now, he has an immaculate workshop with project bikes to design and build. Keep those funny memories of him alive always - he would want you to smile. Love Fi.
