I am looking for a waterproof bag big enough to fit a hand held two way radio and one or two other small items.
It must be able to strap onto the handlebars with something like "Velcro" straps.
Any idea where I will find such a thing?
All the advenbture shops have them.
I \There is none that last very long, simply as the plastic seams tend to leak with age and flexing.
However, you want something different
You need to let your earial cable out a hole somewhere and there lies the rub.
The moment you go our a hole you are no longer water and weather proof.
I have the same problem.
So what I'm doing is bulding a 'false compartment into the klid ov my top box.
Inside the lis is my blur tooth dongle, radio, entire Autocom unit and and...
Then via three grommets in the lid comes out my rider lead, pillion lead and power supply lead.
If I take my top box off the bike (can interchange with oneo the the side pannier lids too) All i need to do is unplug the leads on the side and the top-box lid is free.
The pillion lead is easy direct from tob-vox to pillion.
The rider and the power lead unplug at the lid and then I have to stow them under the seat when not using that lid.
Bluetooth can comunicate through the lid.
So for your penchant for wireless lifestyle you only have the power lead to stow away.
This leaves no wires but the power lead as the aerial you mount on the lid with its wires inside in the top-box.
You can borrow my waterproof bags to get the feel of what I'm talking about.
Thanks Andy.
It does not have to be 100% waterproof so I am not that fazed about the small opening for the aerial wire. More water resistant I suppose as it is behind the screen!
Will check out your suggestion.
Geoff I have something you can look at, I must just find it. I used it when we raced jet ski's. It's a pouch with a clear face and the back is padded. It has one of those "dry bag" roll up type closing systems on the top.
I used to strap it to my "tank"on my jet ski and put my GPS and cell phone in there when riding far off shore. It was totally waterproof and fairly robust.
Perhaps go and look at a shop like Waterworld in Paarden Eiland.
Looks like just what the Dr ordered Warren.
Just let me know how I can get hold of it and how much you want for it.
Geoff
I have it with me at work if you are going to be in the Bellville area, otherwise I can drop it one night.
Until I saw your post, I hadn't thoght about it in years, so it doesn't really have a price. Take it, see if it works and if it does, perhaps you can trade some good Irish whiskey for it.
Sounds like a good trade Warren.
If it is OK you can pop it by sometime and you can test the Whisky!!
