How deep can I pass through water with my standard 650GS and what should I be aware of when doing so? Thanks and enjoy Nelson's

Best phone one of the dealerships, speak to a mechanic who knows. The best I can give is go through SLOWLY through deeper water, as fast creates a bow wave which usually makes the water effectively 'even deeper'. Watch out for hitting shallow water at speed, especially if you are standing as the water can push your foot off a peg! Shallow stagnant or very slow moving water over a concrete bridge or causeway can often have algae making for very slippery conditions...slow approach to water always best. Have a great trip.

Lawrence, you have a wicked sense of humour! I think he's riding alone, I thought we ought to give him safe advice.:-)

Thanks for the tips Neil, never actually thought that your feet will come of the pegs but it makes sense, and don't worry I will try my best not to follow Lawrence's advice. :) "There is just something about riding a motorcycle, something I can't explain, but that it's just so good for one's soul... I also find it hard not to do as he suggests,I once nearly came off fooling around in shallow water.:-) That calmed me down ...for a bit.

It was the little voices that made me do it! :-; Seriously though, the thing that I have learn't with this dual-sport riding is MOMENTUM. Going up, going down and crossing obstacles (such as water). You'll be best advised to follow Neil's advice as his bike is in one piece! :-( Cheers Lawrence Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safetly in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadsides, loudly proclaiming WOW, What a RIDE!

Tonyt I hope you had a really great trip....you MAY post a report and photos! Lawrence I'm really glad you'r ok and up and about! Lawrence had an off on the red route on Saturday, causing more than a little pain to his leg,he still hung in there AND... Rode his bike Out, then home and came back by car for the evenings festivities, well done; hope the leg is better today. It was certainly more than skidding broadsides!!, but while he was lying resting next to his bike (the colour of his face an indication of the pain) he didnt seem able to proclaim WOW,What a RIDE!:-) (I would have been impressed if he had!)

After all of this Lawrence was still willing in helping me up when I dropped my bike on Sunday! Thx Lawrence :-) Corné Kloppers 0849130391 ckloppers@gmail.com

Hi Neil, Lovely trip, +-20 hours in the saddle for the weekend, lovely gravel roads and a nice 2 hour drive in the rain to end it off. I will do a trip report later, basically did "The Hell", Seweweekspoort and Gamkadam. A buddy followed me to "The Hell" in his bakkie and played cameraman. Here is my BORING versions of Lawrence's advice, but at least I tried (and survived): BoringBoring Very BoringVery Boring "There is just something about riding a motorcycle, something I can't explain, but that it's just so good for one's soul... Thanks! What you can do next time is do it once carefully, then repeat it a few times going faster each time!!If you crash then you know for sure how not to!!:-) That is a lovely area to ride, have done same, the water at the dam was muddy at the time, could see the odd fish swirling in the water and some or other eagle type tweetie bird flying overhead.

Hi Neil, funny thing is when I went towards hell, the pool in the second photo was over a small bump and was too quick on me to break so I hit it actually quite fast and was sprayed all over but did not want to try to hard for the photo when we cameback. Next time, but I will try and stop one try less than a crash. :) "There is just something about riding a motorcycle, something I can't explain, but that it's just so good for one's soul...
