This is an invite to owners of petrol or Turbo Diesel 4x4's to join us next year tackling the new SOS (Spencer Bay, Oyster Cliffs, Sylvia Hill) 4x4 desert route out of Luderitz. The plans are as follows : Leave Cape Town on Good Friday and head for Namibia, cross the border. The next 2 days and nights we will spend exploring some little known areas just North of the border. On Monday 5th April we start heading to Luderitz where we overnight at Obelix Guest Cottages leaving for the desert on Tuesday. We exit the dunes on Saturday 10th April and return to Cape Town. The "Desert" section of the route is fully catered. If you are interested in more info please contact me. russell@aroma.co.za Geoff 0828078130

Mark is no longer interested, still have 2 spaces available : S.O.S. Spencer Bay - Oyster Cliffs - Sylvia Hill This new 4x4 route will take you through an area only a few diamond prospectors have explored some 80 years ago and we are proud to offer this product to our 4x4 clients for the first time ever!! We now offer a 5-day trip into this area starting at Spencer Bay where our first overnight camp is situated. On Day 2 we will venture North of Spencer Bay and start tackling the big dunes, which will take us probably the whole day until we reach the sea again some 40km north of Spencer Bay. Here we will take you to the reef of Knoll points and stand on the edge of Oyster Cliffs with stunning views. Here we will venture into a deep gully at the sea for overnight no 2. Spectacular coastline with unusual rock formations can be explored. Day 3 will take us over the cliffs past huge whale bones scattered on the beach all the way to Easter Point, where diamond mining took place in 1924. An old truck with wooden spoked wheels near an old shack may be observed and the remains of steamship ‘Balgowan Castle’, which ran aground in 1904. We now travel along the beach, where the dunes will run into the sea to provide some extreme 4x4 challenges to pass. This will take us to another campsite at the sea for night 3. Day 4 will take us through some magnificent dunes to Sylvia Hill, where a seal colony can be observed as well as the old stone circles built as shelters by the San people some 800 years ago. This is our turning point and we now travel in a south-easterly direction through a ‘Narra’ street past an old landing strip used by the famous diamond pioneer, M Kahan, until we reach Koichab Pan red dunes, where we spend one last night in the desert. Spectacular dune scenery for the photographers is present here. Day 5 will take us back via Koichab Pan to reach the tarred road no later than 13h00 to give our travelers the opportunity to start their return trip to whatever their destination.

Geoff I don't know where I will be in April 2010 but I am interested. Please PM me cost & details. After the Atlantis Sand Dune escapade we had yesterday and now that I know how to lock my diff, I am inspired to go on a longer trip. As always, work gets in the way of fun. I just need to free time off next April to try to make the trip. Shah

Do you think my Touareg V6 TDI will qualify for the trip? If yes, any places left? Cost, etc? Don't waste space - live on the edge
