The 2017 training dates.  The training team has made even more changes to the year planner and promises to make the training season as exciting as possible with new ideas and terrain.

The Level 1, 2 and pillion Off Road training is as per BMW standards. We prefer and recommend riders to do Level 1 first and then move to Level 2.  This way we know they have learned the basics.  We recommend riders with a new bike to do a refresher of Lev 1 or 2 depending on their riding abilities as each bike have its own bonding space and dynamics.

Only 1 level can be completed on a day.

We cover:

- theory about rider gear, safety, rider position, bike set-up, dynamics of the BMW bike, tyre pressures, etc

- Level 1: Explaining and adjusting the motorcycle, ABS de-activation, rider position, Off Road steering, cone riding, balancing, picking up the bike, leading the bike, slow riding, braking

- Level 2: Bike set-up, tyre pressures, rider position, cone riding, body position, angle riding,  stopping on a hill, uphill & down hill riding, sharp turns, sand riding, technical ride up a jeep track, high speed braking on gravel, gymkhana, etc.

Something new to our training will be forest trail riding. A new track will be ready for the new season.  This includes jumping obstacles, single track up hill and down hill riding, crossing a donga, loose gravel,we will ride a circular enduro track…etc etc.  Watch this space as John Carr is on a mission.

There are easier escape routes on the track to allow you to build confidence.

This will take riders to a new riding skill level, but carried out in a safe environment.  Join us for lots of fun and training in a stunning forest/wine farm environment.  Remember our rules still apply:  you only do what you feel comfortable with.  Come and have fun on that GS and challenge yourself .

Training venue:

We are fortunate to use the facilities at Anura Vineyards, Klapmuts.

The dates:

26 FEBR: Lev 1, 2 & Pillion

26 MARCH: Lev 1 Off Road training & ALL Levels Sand/Trail                               Training (2 groups: Introductory and advanced group)

TRAINING DAY WITH A DIFFERENCE : 28 MAY winkcool

We invite everyone who joined us on a previous training day to take part in this fun day with a difference. A quick introduction, bike setup and the normal things we do can be discussed  on arrival and while having your warm cuppa Anura special coffee. Thereafter we will move to the specific training terrains where we will cater for a variety of activities.  The groups will rotate to accommodate as much as possible terrains on the same day.  The day is about cross training and to improve your riding skills, we have the area to do so, so let's use it.   Each group will have an 1 hour slot and move to the next activity (or you can stay for another slot at the same activity to practise your skills).

The programme of the day will cater for the following:

1. Group 1: Standard Level 1 & Pillion training - full day as per norm - 1 trainer;

2. Group 2: Sand training:  cones & braking incorporated  - 1 hour session;

3. Group 3: Forest trail & dam training - 1 hour session;

4. Group 4: Lower dam obstacle course - NEW!! - 1 hour session.  Tymen has excavated a new dam which can be used.... it looks like fun. Let's give it a go!!  Picture below just for illustration purposes.

Groups 2 - 4:  if you have not done an introduction or level 1 training  it will not be wise to do the more advanced sessions. This is level 2 and cross training type training.

The highlight of the day will be the gymkhana event after lunch.  Here we will need everyone who did groups 2 - 4 to attend and put their skills to the test. It normally a fun event and everyone supporting each other.   Does this sound like fun???  For sure it is...adrenalin flowing....machines working....concentration...lots of laughs...just join in the fun!!!

Remember the training days are presented in a fun and relaxed way....no losers...all winners!!!! Emphasys on safety and to bond with your dream machine.

This will take riders to a new riding skill level, but carried out in a safe environment.  Join us for lots of fun and training in a stunning forest/wine farm environment.  Remember our rules still apply:  you only do what you feel comfortable with.  Come and have fun on that GS and challenge yourself . Hi Anna-Marie.

I'm not quite clear what the costs are for...

27 AUG: Training Ride - ALL TAR/PASSES

I assume this is actually for road riders and not just offroad bikes on road?

Thanks!

Thanks to all the riders that came out to make this a great training session,

You can never train enough.

i thoroughly enjoyed the day, and the gymkhana after lunch was a great way to cement the skills we learned.

Thanks Anna Marie for your organisation dn to John, Neels Arno and Pete for sharing your knowledge.

I realise once again, i need t be a lot more fitter than I am to get max out of these training sessions.

Looking forward to the next gymkhana.

Great new initiative - the rotating Level-2 training.

Well done (anf thank you) to all involved - Anna-Marie, Pete, John, Neels and Arno.

Thoroughly enjoyed all three sessions. Yes, even the sandy stuff.

The hour long sessions are just long enough to learn and make incremental progress before getting either completely exhausted or starting to push the envelope too far. So each session ends as a positive experience before moving on onto the next skillset.

The gymkhana was errrm ..... interesting. I obviously lack skills and to compound things further, do not cope well in a "friendly competitive" environment. It's back to basics for me - starting with cones and figure-8s laugh.

All in all, a most enjoyable Sunday mucking about on bikes.

This ALL TAR TRAINING DAY RIDE on 27 AUG 2017 will be for BMW dual purpose and street bikes.

This type of training day ride will appeal to those that are new to riding / feel the urge to improve their tar riding skills / those that commute on a daily basis / to be more street wise as the summer months on our doorstep.

The route we will follow will be mountain passes with both tight and long sweeping bends. The road we choose will cater for safe large stopping areas where we can stop, explain and demonstrate braking into a corner; leaning; where to look and body position approaching the corner; body position through the bend as well as exiting the corner; how and when to roll on the power to maximize a smooth exit.

The focus will be on:

- rider confidence going through corners,

- keeping your line,

- looking through the bend.

- explaining wet road cornering,

- tyre pressures,

- high speed braking, explaining ABS and traction control …how do these electronic components work,

- how to overtake,

- safe distance and riding position behind cars,

- lane splitting, etc etc

We will cater for  two group:  a slower and faster group. We won't be riding far, rather spend time on teaching, explaining and demonstrating which will be a good few hours.  A light lunch en-route will be for your own account.

Costs:

R200.00 per rider  - club member

R250.00 non-club members

Pillions are welcome: R 300.00 per couple for club members & R350.00 per couple for non club members

For the 29th October, does anyone want to convoy out from Cape Town?

When I did the training with Julie some time ago, we rode up the afternoon before and stayed in a B&B.  Had dinner in Stellenbosch and could attend the training in good time without a long ride to get there.

I am I new member and was looking out for any training events that might benefit me, but I do not find anything for 2018.  Even on this forum everything seems to be pre-2017

Do I overlook something or are there not any training courses offered by the club anymore?
