I am looking for an stator for my alternator, The old one is too damaged to rewire. There is always the option to import one of the high output replacements. Someone gave me two names, a Dan Lombard and a Wolfgang, but I do not have their contact details. Any help will be appreciated. The motorcycle is still in use, but my alternator light stays on dimly, it is fine when driving long distances, but in town I must keep it on a battery tender.

Alf The reason why I think it is the stator is, if I do all the measurements on the electrical system (according to the manual), the stator is the only thing which resistance over the three phases do not correspond to the values in the manual. One phase is .3 ohm the other is .17 and the last .2. According to the manual they are suppose to be the same in the region of .3 ohm. If not where else can I have a look. I am open for ideas.

Nice work on measuring the resistances. The best way to test would be with another working one but I sold mine to Angus last night , he uses his bike to work and back daily.I would like to know why the old one cannot be rewound?

The stator itself is damaged, I think somewhere between 1982 and before I bought it, a rotor disintegrated on her and the previous owner just changed the rotor.

interesting the questions of Wessie. I'm experiencing somehow the same. Riding in Town with light eats up any battery. Especially the robot stops are horror! I was at a battery shop and they tested the generator etc and they stated everything is fine. So I am at a dead end street as well. Somehow I'm working around in switching the head light off in town as often as possible and try to run higher revs than the normal idle at the robots as well, quite stressful sometimes.. A buddy from the CMCC sayd there would be some part to put into the bike (sorry I don't know the technical expression for it) to generate more electrical power at low revs. He also experienced the low charging power at low revs on his classic BMW.... Ok, I will have the stator checked when next time at the workshop... Will keep you updated... Jan

My problem was solved, it was a new voltage regulator (not BMW), a standard three point 14V automotive regulator which was faulty, it terminated the charge at 12.75V. Went and exchanged it and all my problems went away, but keep me posted.
